this is dumb, jay.

some players want to bet on their upside. they are confident enough in their abilities that they'll play out their arbitration years for a mega contract in free agency that will see them having raked in way more cash X years down the road.

it's not an uninformed decision, and some players are better off for not taking buyouts.

you would have had stanton, as his agent, 2 years ago sign for like 6/70. now he's guaranteed for 325 if he plays out his deal. would his agent have been a scumbag for suggesting he wait?

And some -- Read: Boras -- are better at it than everyone else. This isn't hard.

The best players wouldn't sign with him if it wasn't a mutually beneficial thing. This is utterly ridiculous.

What seems interesting is that a guy like Fernandez is also a Boras client. I wonder what will happen with that situation considering his attachment to Miami, his family being here, his success at Marlins Park, and the fact that he'll likely earn upwards of $200 million on the open market. A guy like Ozuna will make a lot of money, but not that kind of money and isn't playing for a team that wants to keep him as much as he wants to stay.

Looks like Ozuna is being recalled. I'd guess Yelich gets placed on the DL.
