  • Also, a pitcher can still have value even if he is an injury risk. Even if he's right about the specific pitchers and their levels of risk, he talks about guys like Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler like there is no value to having them in your organization whatsoever, which is obviously ridiculous on its face.

    • Injuries aren't as "scary" to teams if the talent is there. Like Bobo said, Harvey, Wheeler. Add Jose Fernandez. Think teams will say "Oh he had Tommy John, I don't want him."

      • I'd say SP's are worth the risk...RPs, on the other hand, not so much.

        • I think RPs are almost never worth a big investment or attachment.

                  • Updated salary outlook for 2016. I revised some of the numbers a little, as I didn't have Capps as a Super2 or the Yankees money , etc.

                    C- Realmuto $525k
                    1B - Bour - $525k
                    2B - Gordon $5 (arb 1)
                    SS - Hech $3.5 (arb 1)
3B - Prado $8 (three million covered Yankees)
                    LF - Yelich - $1
                    CF - Ozuna - $525k (no super2)
                    RF - Stanton - $9
                    B - Rojas - $525k
                    B - Dietrich - $525k
                    B - “Veteran Presence” - $1.5
                    B - “Veteran Presence” - $1.5
                    B - T. Telis - $525k (new backup catcher from rangers)
                    Dead - Salty - $8
                    Bats= $41ish

                    SP - Fernandez - $4 (arb1)
                    SP - Alvarez- $4.25 (arb2)
                    SP - Koehler - $3 (arb1)
                    SP - Cosart - $525k
                    SP - Nicolino - $525k

                    RP - Ramos - $3 (arb1)
                    RP - Capps - $1.5 (super2)
                    RP - Dunn - $3.45
                    RP - Phelps - $3 (arb1)
                    RP - Morris - $1.5 (arb1)
                    RP - Urena - $525k
                    RP - Hand - $525k
                    =$25ish

Total payroll = $66 millionish ($63 without those hypothetical veteran bats)

Their 2015 opening day payroll was $68.5 million ($15 million coming from LAD/NYY, so Loria out of pocket $53.5)

So payroll is actually slightly down if they field the "in house" team, but it's going to be up $15 million for papa loria's wallet.

They saved around $20 million bucks moving Morse, Latos, Haren, Cishek, and the comp pick. You can use your own judgement what payroll is going to be.

                    • Telis is going straight to the majors, which I don't get because he'll just sit on the bench behind Realmuto and possibly Mathis. Best case he gets some pinch hits. I'd rather he just get regular AB's in AAA until the end of the season and see what we have in him thereafter.

                      • Yeah that's dumb, unless they're going to release Mathis.

Could he be Bour's platoon partner and play against lefties at 1B?

                          • Can't wait to see who they put on the 40 man-we have 5 spots open(35) with Kelly/Henderson able to 60 Day FL(33) and Mathis/Donovan DFA if needed(31)

                            7 spots open

I mean Telis gets the majority of his AB's against righties, so I don't think that would the plan. He actually doesn't hit all that bad against lefties, but based on the huge disparity in AB's between righties and lefties, I'd have to say his future in a platoon behind the plate.

                              • Telis future is backup C. Can hit and decent defense but can call a game well
