  • Jacksonville: Kendry Flores, RHP

Acquired from San Francisco in McGehee trade.

    MLBPipeline.com #12 prospect:

    Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 55 | Control: 55 | Overall: 45
Having accumulated a large group of pitching prospects with good strike-throwing ability, the Marlins added another control artist to that mix in the trade that sent Casey McGehee to the Giants in December 2014. Flores led all Minor Leaguers with an 8.1 K/BB ratio in 2013, though he wasn't able to repeat that otherworldly performance the next season in the California League.

Flores showed more consistent fastball velocity in 2014, working at 90-93 mph and regularly reaching 95 mph. He mixes in his changeup effectively, making him especially tough on left-handed hitters. His breaking ball gets caught between a curveball and slider at times, but at its best it gives him a third solid offering.

Flores may not have a true plus pitch, but his command helps his stuff play up. He doesn't have a ton of physical projection remaining, so his ceiling is likely that of a back-of-the-rotation starter.
