      --------------------
      this was from January 2013:

2014 middle-infield prospect Justin Twine from Hemphill, Texas is the latest premier level prospect to commit to TCU Baseball, following in the steps of Matt Purke, Mitchell Traver, Jake Thompson and Kyle Crick.

The main difference? Twine is a better athlete than any of those guys, and projects to be a pure 5-tool player with a 7 hit tool in his prime. 247Sports seems him as a 4-star football recruit as well, but football is no longer on Twine's mind.

HornedFrogBlitz.com reported back in December that Twine had visited TCU with hopes of receiving an offer in football, with a baseball offer already in hand. But, after a month or so of contemplation, Twine has committed to baseball and to TCU, ending what promised to be an intense year of recruiting for the dual sport star.

As of December, Twine held football offers from Baylor and Sam Houston State, as well as baseball offers from TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech and Texas A&M.

TCU intends to have Twine play a versatile role, should he make it to campus, fitting his bat into the lineup in any way possible. He could even pitch some, should the shoe fit and the need arise.

Justin Twine, SS/RHP, Falls City HS (TX)
A two-way standout in both baseball and football, Twine is a great athlete who has been a one-man wrecking crew for Falls City this season. At the plate, he is hitting .615/.756/1.308 with four doubles, four triples, two home runs and 14 stolen bases. He has drawn 13 walks to just two strikeouts. On the mound, he has 32 K/2 BB over 13 innings, allowing just three hits. At 5’-10” and 200 pounds, he has more upside as a position player where his speed (6.52/60) and strong arm will allow him to play at several positions. He is considered raw as he has split his time between sports, but he has all the tools and the power is already coming. Committed to TCU.

Going to be a longshot to sign this guy. Probably be an Avery Romero-type overslot to get him.

              So, either

              A) They went under on Blake Anderson to have money to sign this kid, or

              B) They took this kid expecting not to sign him and they're just going to save a shit ton of money between this pick and Blake Anderson

I'm hoping it's the former because I really like what I've seen of this kid
              --------------------
On the football field, Justin Twine showed break-away speed, and he once rushed for more than 500 yards in a game for Falls City High School in Texas.

Twine's all-around athleticism captured the attention of the Marlins.

The Marlins selected Twine in the second round -- 43rd overall -- on Thursday in the First-Year Player Draft.

"He's an extremely good athlete," Marlins vice president of scouting Stan Meek said. "He's very strong. Very fast. Very good bat speed. Way above-average bat speed. He's got power. We think he can stay in the middle of the diamond on the infield, either short or second. He fits a lot of things. Really good athlete with baseball skills."

A two-sport standout, Twine can play shortstop and second base. He has a verbal commitment to Texas Christian University, which also has a commitment from Tyler Kolek, picked second overall by Miami.

The Marlins are confident Twine will sign. The slot value of the 43rd pick is $1,316,000.

"We think he will be a basestealer that plays in the middle," Meek said. "He's a very intelligent kid. We think that will speed up his clock as far as him being ready to go."

The Draft continues on Friday with Rounds 3-10. The MLB.com pregame show begins at 12:30 p.m. ET, with exclusive coverage of Rounds 3-10 beginning at 1 p.m.

In his senior season, Twine batted .538 (28-for-52) with six home runs, two doubles, five triples and 22 RBIs.

Middle infield and overall speed are areas the Marlins are looking to improve in the Draft.

"There are high school and college guys out there," Meek said. "The question now, as you get a little deeper in the Draft, who are the guys we can sign with our money? We'll work in the morning and find out what our signability is."

If they sign all three picks, I'd be happy with our draft.

Ben Deluzio 2.0. Hopefully he signs though. I wasn't too happy about missing out on Deluzio last year.

Listed as a SS but will be offensive 2B with speed.

The reason they took him at #43 instead of later was wants 1 mil+ to sign. So it's not money saving. Anderson will probably save us 100-200K tho

Not a bad pick,Top 3 Athlete in the draft. My biggest issue with the pick is the Top 2(Harrison and Forbes) were both still on the board and both of them are actually baseball guys. But hey least we didn't take a Marquise Cooper again, this kid can hit.

                            "hammy."

He's had a rough start. I was expecting he'd get a DL stint at some point to let him restart everything.

                            - - - - - - - - - -

Could also just be a hammy, doe.

I mean, they don't have to make up a DL stint in the minors. They could just option him to Batavia.

The announcers said he was hurt during the game today. But they were also idiots, so who knows.

Fake DL stint instead of him being in extended spring training would be pretty dumb.
