Doesn't matter. He's Cuban. He's going to sell tickets. Lots and lots of tickets.

Of course not,Loria will be in his NY penthouse. He will either ask some team how the showcase went or send his adopted son Greg Dobbs down to take a look!!

Seriously tho,Abreu will get an offer from us no matter what. Loria sees Cubans as guys who will fill the seats. Just like Cespedes,he will recieve a take it or leave it offer and will prolly leave it

The report actually says every team was there to watch it but 5 team had the strongest presence.

And it doesn't say four teams had a big group there at all.

Five teams had the strongest presence at this week’s open showcases for Cuban first baseman Jose Abreu, according to several sources in attendance.

The Rangers and Red Sox, two teams that some believe could be the frontrunners for Abreu, each had several evaluators at Abreu’s showcases, held Monday and Tuesday at the Yankees’ Dominican academy. The Red Sox “were there in full force,” according to one scout.

While the Rangers’ season ended on Monday with a loss to the Rays in the wild card play-in game and the Red Sox are currently in the playoffs, at least three other teams no longer playing were able to send some of their more senior executives.

White Sox executive vice president Ken Williams was there, as were a heavy contingent from the Giants led by general manager Brian Sabean, special assistant Felipe Alou and special assignment scout Pat Burrell. Dan Jennings, whom the Marlins recently promoted to general manager, was also in attendance.

Every team had someone there to see Abreu, but the Giants seemed to have an especially large crew, despite having one of the game’s best first basemen in Brandon Belt under control for four more seasons and no DH spot available.

tj reading stuff and then just deciding it says what he wants it to say explains so much

MIAMI — We’re about to find out how serious the Marlins are about signing Jose Dariel Abreu.

Earlier in the week, the organization was well represented at Abreu’s two-day workout in the Dominican Republic.

Word is the organization is highly impressed with the power-hitting first baseman. Within the next two weeks, bids are expected to come in for the 26-year-old Cuban native, who is said to have a boyish face and fun-loving personality.

The Marlins are all-in on signing Abreu. But can they seal the deal? That will be up to team owner Jeffrey Loria, and how much he is willing to spend.

For a player who has never played in the big leagues, will they go past $40 million, or $50 million, if necessary?

The sense is, the club is seriously thinking about it. The thought of having Giancarlo Stanton and Abreu in the middle of the order could immediately upgrade the team that scored the fewest runs in the Majors (513) this season.

At his workout, Abreu showed an easy swing, and the ball exploded off his bat.

Abreu is said to be more of a pure hitter than Stanton, who has the edge in raw power.

The Marlins are not expected to be major players in the free agent market for established big league veterans. However, the international market presents an attractive alternative.

Abreu’s price tag will be dramatically lower than, say, Robinson Cano, who is said to be seeking $300 million.

Even if that is an inflated figure to start off with, Cano still projects to make $200-plus million, still out of Miami’s price league.

Abreu also is interesting because he might be passable at third base. Ideally, he would play first. But he could be a candidate to play third, if the club also would like to retain Logan Morrison.

Bottom line with Abreu is his bat.

If he can hit the way some believe he will, he could play a defensive third base similar to what Miguel Cabrera is doing in Detroit.

Also telling about the Marlins’ interest in Abreu is the club may be willing to boost payroll to more than the projected $38 million they initially were leaning towards.

The exact budget the team plans to operate with has not yet been determined.

Perhaps the key is finding the right player to invest in to incresae payroll. Abreu just may be that guy.

                            – Joe Frisaro
I guess let him play third this year and move him to first when they trade Logan or he is eligible for free agency.
