I mean it would only be Skipworth for a week or two, right? I don't think there's a need to get a backup catcher, just let Skippy rot the bench a bit, maybe make a start or two, then send him back to AA/AAA.

I dont think its out of the question that Skipworth could outperform Mathis both at the plate and behind it.

But having two left-handed catchers who cannot hit lefties at all isn't the best idea to me.

Oh, are we suddenly playing to win?

I guess not, but still. I don't want automatic outs. It's gonna be easy enough for the opposing pitcher. How many times will Giancarlo get walked to get to Ruggiano? lol

as opposed to one lefty who cant hit lefties and one righty who cant hit lefties or righties?

Based on the projection of being sidelined for 6 weeks wouldn't we expect him in May. It would be a horrible idea to give up an asset for a backup catcher but grabbing a DFA at the end of spring training isn't a bad idea. Inflating Skipworth's confidence in the PCL is probably better than letting him get crushed in the majors for a month to start the season.

Let's be honest, he's probably going to get crushed in AAA too.

Hater's gonna hate, Skipworth's gonna skip.

Matt Treanor is still on the market

Looking at the out-of-options list, the only guys that are out of options and are in danger of losing their roster spot are Brett Hayes or George Kottaras from Kansas City (with one of them winning the backup gig.) So if we go outside the organization, I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with one of those guys. That or a catcher who currently is a non-roster guy and gets released.

                              I would take George Kottaras.

At the break, we're 17-11 when Mathis catches and 18-47 when he doesn't.
