  • Miami Marlins: No Plans to Curtail Lo Viste Sign

Houston Astros reliever Wilton Lopez apparently took exception to Hanley Ramirez flashing the “Lo viste” sign back to the Marlins dugout last month after hitting a home run off him. Wednesday, Lopez hit Ramirez with a seventh-inning offering. As he exited the field, Lopez mockingly directed the “Lo viste” toward Ramirez.

Don’t look for the Marlins to curtail their use of the signal, formed by spreading the index and middle finger over an eye to convey, “See that?”

“It’s our thing,” Ramirez said. “We’re going to keep doing it.”

Emilio Bonifacio and Omar Infante started it toward the end of last season. It caught on this spring training and the Marlins have adopted it as group. Bonifacio said Lopez hitting Ramirez because of it was pure stupidity.

“It wasn’t something directed toward him,” Bonifacio said. “It was nothing personal against him. Whoever it is, we get a hit against another team we’ve done it, and not aiming it at their dugout.”
