The Marlins front office is somewhat unlucky that their rookie of the year sucks dick at baseball this season

      It's not bad luck.

He, like Cameron Maybin, is sucking enormous horse cock right now.

I think it's a bit of bad luck (he does have a low BABIP and a high LD rate, so you would expect his BABIP to go up) but he's also showing a really bad approach relative to what he's done in the minors and did last year, and he's making a whole lot of weak contact to go along with it.

But even if his BABIP were to go up, he's still not walking enough, he's still striking out, and he's not hitting for power, so it's not like if a couple of hits fall in, everything's honky dory. He's all kinds of fucked up right now.

Swing% at balls outside of the strike zone:
          Last year: 21%
          Average: 25%
          This year: 30%

          Swing% period
          Last year: 41%
          Average: 45%
          This year: 47%

He's swinging more, and swinging at crap more. Doesn't have to do with luck. He went from being very patient to being a free swinger. When you don't have power, you're gonna suck if you're a free swinger.

It's because Nick Johnson isn't there to rub off on him :-P

Probably the most encouraging game of the year so far for him. 11 (?) pitch AB leading to a single over the short stop, and then a nice late inning walk.

Yeah, it's reaching for positives, but tonight seemed to provide a little encouragement.

he looked really good last night, saw a lot of pitches and got some good bat on the ball. definitely encouraging.

He's on fire. Going with what I've just watched I would guess his line drive rate has gone up quite a bit with how well he's hitting.

Still kinda concerned about him. He's K'ing alot and even during his 8 game hit streak he has a K'd once a game and walked just twice.

Kind of hard to walk when you're hitting .500
God would be expecting a first pitch breaking ball in the dirt because humans love to disappoint him.

Since May 5th he's raised his OPS 293 points.

If he breaks .300 soon, I think we need to start pushing for an ASG appearance
