  • UPDATE: Marlins to Host 2017 All-Star Game

    Bob Nightengale @BNightengale
The #Orioles are the leading contender to get the 2016 #MLB All-Star Game, while the 2017 All-Star Game will go to the #Marlins or #Padres
San Diego will likely get it. Stadium is already 10 years old.

Baltimore has hosted the All-Star Game within the last 25 years. Meanwhile, the National League has a backload of new and renovated ballparks waiting to host.

    Marlins Park
    PETCO Park
    Nationals Park
    Dodger Stadium
Wrigley Field (once renovations have been completed)
    Sun Trust Park (Braves)

Can we just get rid of home field advantage and end the leagues alternating All-Star Game sites?

I have no doubt Petco will get it.

San Diego got the 2016 ASG. Doubt MLB will have the game in an NL city for 3 consecutive years. See you in 2018?

The Marlins will host the 2017 All-Star Game, according to the Miami Herald. While both the team and MLB have not confirmed the news, officials are expected to make the announcement some time this week. The club attempted to host the game back in 2015, but lost out on the bid. Marlins Park does have experience with big events. The World Baseball Classic was held there in 2013

                WOW
I was thinking we'd never get it with the plans for a bidding system to be introduced

Agreed. It makes sense though, if promises were made that now 3 years in a row it'll be in NL parks - to eliminate the backup as there are many more new NL parks than AL parks - before switching to a bidding system.

I don't know how it works in the NFL, but I do hope they include some sort of clause saying parks can't host it consecutively or X times within 5 years or something along those lines so we don't run into the scenario where teams like the Yankees or Dodgers outbid everyone every year.

Yeah I forgot that we were promised it. The Nationals were too and are probably getting 2018, so it could be 4 years in a row for the NL.

I don't think we knew it was promised, but rather kind of assumed since its a new park and we've never hosted one.

Well, if memory serves, we were promised the ASG for 2015 but then we kinda had the whole Blue Jays trade and they gave it to Cincy instead.

Oh really? I didn't know that.

It will be interesting to see how the new commissioner handles the All-Star Game determining home field in the World Series. Seems unfair to me that the next three are in NL cities and the commissioner in favor of a bidding system.
