  • 2018 Miami Marlins Broadcasting Discussion

All talk regarding Miami Marlins broadcasts and coverage goes here.

Paul Severino takes over for Rich Waltz on FS-Florida.

First full season without Felo Ramirez. I'm going to miss his Babe Ruth and Humphrey Bogart stories.

two thumbs down for severino for 2 things not in his control - 1) he's not rich waltz and 2) he has the same voice as hollandsworth

meanwhile that putz whose booming radio baritone functions 4x slower than the action on the field is still around, forcing at bat listeners to listen to the opposite team feed.

They say Dave Van Horne is a baseball radio legend or whatever, and maybe he once was, but i cant stand him and for the life of me i dont know why they havent just gone to Geffner full time for years now. Im also not listening to a lot of baseball in the car, but still, Van Horne is like listening to paint dry.

The thing about Severino and Hollandsworth voices though is right on. I like Severino in the limited time ive heard him and dont really like Hollandsworth to begin with, but i dont see that as a long term option because its confusing even though its out of their control.

I didn't really notice it until it was mentioned in the thread, but yeah I was paying attention to it after that and there were numerous times I wasn't 100% sure which guy was talking.

Learn Spanish and listen to the WAQI broadcast. It's miles ahead of WINZ. I stopped listening to DVH years ago. I cannot forgive him for his call of the last out in 2003.

I had noticed that the two of them have the EXACT same voice. It's hard to know who's talking.

I love Glenn. In my opinion he should've been the new TV guy. Oh well, I hope Severino grows into the job and into me.

I liked Waltz. I get why he wasn't everybody's cup of tea, but I had grown to really enjoy the quirkiness he brought to the broadcasts.

And maybe severino and hollandsworth could get it but the thing with Waltz was that he made it feel like a home broadcast and the biggest issue severino might have is finding a way to do that given the team.

SLATER SCOOP: Craig Minervini earns a job in the Marlins play-by-play booth for part of season. He will call 10 games; first one April 30 vs. Phillies. Paul Severino to call the rest.
                  Thats pretty big news.

Ugh...I like Minervini not as PBP guy though.

Yeah, he filled in a few times last year and wasn't very good. Why he'll be calling more (intentionally) this year, I don't understand.

The more important thing that that signals to me is that Severino isnt guaranteed to be here for very long if they already arent showing much commitment like that. Would be super cool if they just bring back rich and tommy next year. I think that is one move that would be universally praised.

Not universally. Speaking for myself, I think the new team is an upgrade. However, I'd favor a female play by play face and voice - Sofia Vergara comes to mind.

I miss seeing Foxtrax on the screen. Ball and strike calls seemed very inconsistent these first two games.

Guy wants Sofia Vergara calling Fish games. Can't really argue with it.
