People spun some numbers to try to convince themselves a guy that sucks maybe wasn't going to be a complete bust.

    Then he kept on sucking.

Thinking he sucks isn't coming out of nowhere here.

You're including division leaders. For the second WC spot, there are currently only five teams in front of us. That extra playoff spot changes everything.

I'm not. There's a 3 way tie for both spots at the moment.

Lee has an .835 OPS vs RHP this year

He is an instant major upgrade and a solid addition overall. Not sure why anyone thinks Dominguez is going to magically start hitting any time soon.

That the guys going out are considered by some to be "prospects" says more about our system (and, by extension, our FO) than anything else. I don't care about Carlos Lee, he doesn't push us over the hump, he's not holding down anyone's development. I don't care about Dominguez or Rasmussen. I really don't care about this trade. I think it's silly that we made it, and I think it's even sillier you care this much. We're better for it, we're still a crappy team.
That's where we disagree, I guess.

If we're giving up on Gaby, I'd much rather see Logan Morrison at 1B considering he's quite possibly part of the current core, and he's probably better there than in LF where he's attrocious.

This move prevents that from happening. I really don't care if "we're better for it" considering that "we're still a crappy team."

Can't believe there's this much negativity toward a trade like this...there is no question this deal represents an upgrade in every way. Ruggiano is "cool" in that Bruce Aven type of way when someone comes from nowhere and does kinda well, but he's simply not going to keep up the production long term. Morrison has become a question mark at this point and I don't think it's safe to guarantee him a lineup spot until he turns it around, which I think is dependent upon the FO realizing he is not a middle of the order player and that he needs to just do his thing and get on base instead of trying to hit gap shots and sac flies.

Dominguez and Rasmussen are shit. We traded a guy who MIGHT, if all turns out well, become a LOOGY, and a guy who MIGHT, if all turns out well, hit .230 with 10 home runs and win a Gold Glove, for a pretty substantial upgrade in the lineup. Is Lee "the answer?" No. He doesn't get us to the playoffs by himself. Like has been mentioned, we need the other hitters to start producing. But he is a HUMONGOUS upgrade over the Worst Everyday Player In Baseball. It's a trade you HAVE to make even if it isn't really a big deal. They added .200 OPS points to the lineup for $238K and some pieces that wouldn't belong on a playoff team anyway. It's a no brainer.

Right now I'm not sure Morrison should be considered a part of the LINEUP, let alone part of the "core" of this team. His eye isn't even redeeming him this year. Just for kicks and giggles:

                      .249/.323/.406, 17 HR, 61 RBI, 6 steals
                      .242/.317/.433, 20 HR, 66 RBI, 0 steals

First stat line is 2008 Jeremy Hermida, second is 2012 projected Logan Morrison stats.

.257/.334/.415 is Hermida's current career slash line, .254/.342/.450 is Morrison's. He's showing a little better power than Hermida did, but it's getting to a point where you have to consider the possibility that he may not be anything special.

Also in regards to whoever wrote about Stanton for Manny, the rumors were swirling big time, the Marlins confirmed they were in discussions, and then Loria said they were not trading Stanton and that if Stanton ended up being a bust there would be a lot of scouts getting fired. To say they "considered" it is ludicrous and to base a fear of trading Yelich or Fernandez off of that is even more ludicrous. That's like that time the Red Sox made an offer for Hanley and people were upset because we were "talking about trading Hanley." No we weren't, we listened to someone's offer. It's stupid not to do that.

I don't think move Logan Morrison to first base in February instead of now is going to be a long-term issue of any kind.

I had a feeling the Marlins were going to go after him. I read that Matty D is going straight to Houston to back up Chris Johnson. Anyway, it sucks to give up Rasmussen a tiny bit, but I always assumed he would get traded at some point. I would like the Marlins to get a long-term answer for center (Bourjos or Span) because I still don't feel Bonifacio is the answer in center or second. He did however hit .302 in May before getting hurt.

Um, are you saying Morrison shouldn't be guaranteed a lineup spot or did I read that wrong?

If you don't think Morrison is worthy of a lineup spot right now, you're going to love Carlos Lee...

Probably not. I just think this is a waste of time.

If that's all you got from Polky's post, you are awfully dense
