I think it's a bit early to say that Gaby "stinks."
He's had two full seasons in the big leagues and neither one has been bad. ~.780 .OPS production with good defense is not bad at all.
Chris Coghlan can't even produce against minor league pitching anymore.

His second half last year was real bad, and he got worse this year
Also, Gaby's second half was really bad his rookie year as well, and he bounced back last year with similar production to his rookie year.
Perhaps he's now really bad and has regressed to this terrible level, but there should still be some hope he hasn't. He currently has a .464 .OBP in AAA right now. Maybe he had to make an adjustment. His walk rate in April was one of his many problems, which was weird because he's never had an issue drawing walks.
Also, even if we're comparing bench players, Gaby still does something obviously well, which is hit left-handed pitching. Despite the struggles, he was still performing well against lefties. Chris Coghlan does absolutely nothing well.

Maybe he will get better. I don't have any doubts that in the next month they'll call him up to be the everyday 1B. My guess is he will continue to look as hapless as he has all season.
I still think I'd rather have a guy on the bench with a little speed that can play the outfield over a guy that can hit league average against lefties
