For so long, Gaby Sanchez was the one dependable piece in the Marlins’ lineup when many of the others were struggling. Now Sanchez is the one who is slumping while others — notably Hanley Ramirez and Emilio Bonifacio — have stepped it up at the plate.
Entering Monday’s makeup game against the New York Mets, Sanchez, the Marlins’ only All-Star representative, had gone just 1 for 16 in the four games since the break.
But Sanchez said hitting coach Eduardo Perez detected a “small, little technical” issue with his swing that they corrected before Monday’s game.
“He was the one who guy was really carrying us before I got here,” manager Jack McKeon said. “Since I got here, the other guys have picked up. If he jumps in there, it’ll really be a plus. And he will.”
