Miami has been calling HS guys asking about price-they still would love Sabato/Wells/Casey Martin(College Bat) but would pass if 1 of those guys they like are there and signable. If we go HS player at #40 they would then go with a college bat in 2S who fell like Hudson Haskin,Gage Workman,Tyler Keenan,Servideo

Miami is also very interested in RP who could be SP and JC arms

Asa Lacy is still #1 on our board

Looking like we want 1 College Bat/1 HS Arm/1 College C/1 or 2 College Arms on Day 2 in some order but should be very active in UDFA with guys who either are in HS/JC/College in Florida and guys who grew up down here.

Sounds like Thursday/Day 2 might be 100x more fun then 1st Rd because of $ pool, ability to get picks next year if don't sign guys and UDFA no one knows what the hell is gonna happen
They have Lacy ahead of Tork and Martin?

That wouldn't surprise me at all. Lacy is a stud. I've had him ahead of Martin for some time, and I like Martin a lot. Torkelson, I think he's probably the surest thing as a pure hitter that we've had in quite a few drafts, so that'd be hard to pass up. I just think Lacy's ceiling is so high, couple that with already great production in the SEC, plus I think he's the best fit organizationally being able to slot him in with our power righties Alcantara, Cabrera and Sixto. Just makes so much sense.

The Angels will be on the clock tomorrow night with Mick Abel, Cade Cavalli, Tyler Soderstrom, Garrett Crochet, Nick Bitsko, Garrett Mitchell Pete Crow-Armstrong and many others remaining on the board.

Instead, they are currently contemplating punting the pick to save $100,00
      0.

Angels 1 of 4 teams thinking about doing this. Taking HS or college guys who will NOT sign, get the picks for next year and just regrouping in 2021.
The Angels have given out about a billion $'s in contracts the last couple years and they're worried about $100K? Am I missing something here?

If I'm not mistaken, it wouldn't be about saving the money, but rather getting the extra pick in 2021.

I don't get that. It's not like this is a weak draft, despite the fact that it's only 5 rounds. A couple of high school players have dropped out of the draft, but not a bunch, and unless they're going to Junior College, those players will have to wait 3 years. College players that would've been drafted high in 2020, and college players that would be drafted high in 2021 remain unchanged.

Bingo. Well would actually be saving 100-300K this year but its really about getting 1-3 picks AND the draft pool $ in the 2021 draft that is gonna be likely the best ever.

LAA/Washington are seriously considering this while SD/SF/TB/Cubs/Milwaukee are thinking about doing some type of this

Well actually its alot more players than reported. Both HS and College who have told teams they are out

Its more about getting flexiblity next year and scouting. LAA thinking is this. Get 6 or 7 picks in the first 3 rounds and have a cap pool of 20 million for 25 picks-they can scout the whole year too

The Pool Cap $ is the real driving force behind this and not the 100k. The more $ u got the more stuff u can do

            Now onto the Marlins

Looks like Asa Lacy is the pick UNLESS his bonus demands get crazy today. His people are talking to Detroit/Balt/Miami/Toronto about numbers-before this week he was said to be cool with a 7.25 to 7 Million however been reported he upped the number some to Detroit and Baltimore. No clue if this is cause he wants to drop to us or he really wants more

If he wants 8 million and Austin Martin is still on the board we probably would go with Martin but if Lacy doesnt he is our pick!!!

            • The latest MLB.com mock draft:

              3. Marlins
Callis: Asa Lacy, LHP, Texas A&M -- The Marlins would prefer Martin, whom scouting director D.J. Svihlik recruited to Vanderbilt when he coached there. If Martin is gone, the choice comes down to Lacy and Gonzales.

Mayo: Asa Lacy, LHP, Texas A&M -- Ever since Lacy separated himself as the top arm in this class, he’s been associated with the Marlins. If Martin were to be available here, that would be an interesting conversation.

Yep unless his signing bonus gets crazy today he is our guy. They like Austin Martin ALOT but #1 aren't sold on him playing SS or 3B and think they can get a Casey Martin/Anthony Servideo/Freddy Zamora/Alika Williams/Zavier Warren later in the draft and #2 are drooling over a Asa/Sixto/Cabrera/Sandy/Garrett rotation in few years

                • Jose Fernandez turned 21 in late July of his inaugural MLB season and was voted Rookie of the Year. Asa Lacey turned 21 on June 2 of this year. Yep, I'd at least think about it after checking him out in spring training 2.0.

He isnt ready yet. Lacy has great stuff but they need to clean up his delivery-ML bats would destroy him cause he kinda tips his pitches

                      3. Miami Marlins
Asa Lacy, LHP, Texas A&M: In the event these first two go chalk, this pick is also expected to go chalk. Martin would be the pick if Gonzales or Kjerstad go second.

                      40. Miami Marlins: Alika Williams, SS, Arizona State

                      61. Miami Marlins: Ian Seymour, LHP, Virginia Tech

That's exciting. If he's been this good while tipping his pitches, he's even better than I thought.

Well when u throw 98 against college guys u can tip them HAHA. Not really tipping pitches but his delivery isnt crisp-lets just say the Astros would destroy him
I have to agree with Lee on this one, if he's tipping his pitches and college hitters still only managed to hit .111 off him this year, and about .160 for his entire college career then woah. I don't think he should be getting a look for going straight to the majors, but I would be surprised if he spent much more than a full year in the minors. (under normal circumstances, in which we are not)

I like the Seymour projection very much. Can't have too many lefties in the system. I'd actually go Seymour at 40 over Williams.

Ya they like a few college bats and HS arms at #40. Gonna depend on who is there

I think they go HS player at 61 then College Arm at 75. I would prefer a Hugh Fisher/Jared Shuster but they have looked at Fisher/Shuster/Swiney/Seymour/Eder/Weatherly/Ryan Webb. In other words they want a big LH College arm

Why u can get Seymour or about 7 others in Rd 3. Get a college bat

These are the players they mock around those later picks. Personally there are other names I would prefer...but then again I know basically nothing!

                                #40:

                                38. Detroit Tigers: J.T. Ginn, RHP, Mississippi State

                                39. Baltimore Orioles: Jordan Westburg, SS, Mississippi State

                                40. Miami Marlins: Alika Williams, SS, Arizona State

                                41. Kansas City Royals: Masyn Winn, SS, Kingwood HS (Texas), Arkansas commit

                                42. Toronto Blue Jays: Austin Wells, C, Arizona

                                43. Seattle Mariners: Cole Henry, RHP, LSU

                                44. Pittsburgh Pirates: C.J. Van Eyk, RHP, Florida State

                                and #61:
                                61. Miami Marlins: Ian Seymour, LHP, Virginia Tech

                                62. Detroit Tigers: Casey Martin, SS, Arkansas

                                63. St. Louis Cardinals: Kevin Parada, C, Loyola HS (California), Georgia Tech commit

                                64. Seattle Mariners: Casey Schmitt, 3B, San Diego State

                                65. Cincinnati Reds: Jeff Criswell, RHP, Michigan

                                66. Los Angeles Dodgers: Trevor Hauver, LF, Arizona State

                                - - - - - - - - - -

Keith Law's final mock draft is out and his note is interesting:

                                3. Miami Marlins: Asa Lacy, LHP, Texas A&M

This is the safe bet, but do not be surprised if the Marlins go with Max Meyer here — even if Martin doesn’t go at No. 2.
