We're gonna sign 22 year old Yolbert Sanchez at some point in the near future. Not sure who the other guy in this picture is. Any idea? And are they hinting that they will both be signing with us? Either way, great to see us with 2-3 guys who are going to be signed with us this IFA period out of MLB pipelines top 30. IFA is a crapshoot but you we were doing ourselves such a disservice by not investing in it at all under the previous moron owner.
Yep because thats Mesa JR with him. Reason why people thought we were the NL team with the 2 million dollar offer is he close with the Mesa Brothers. Havent heard much about Yo Sanchez since Feb when Baltimore was stalking him but looks like he is waiting till July 2. No clue who is signing him???

Yo Sanchez,Junior Sanchez,Lewis,Salas would be a great start and no clue about Yidi Cappe? They are ALL SS too!!! We got 5.5 million but can trade for more(they have told teams they want IFA cash in deals so)

Oh shit you’re absolutely right, I hadn’t even recognized victor jr. ifa is still a crapshoot but thank god we are no longer just resigning ourselves to ignoring it and putting ourselves at a competitive disadvantage against other teams

NOT saying we are signing this kid BUT we signed his brother LY(Raul Campos) and he is in DSL

Roberto Campos who plays third base, was the tournament's MVP.

          Yiddi Cappe News

Yiddi Cappe , who is the number seven prospect in the list of thirty best prospects of international free agency. The Antillean is a very popular short field for this upcoming period of international free agency that begins on July 2.

Since the young artemision decided to leave Cuba to pursue a better future in the baseball leased to generated a lot of interest from several teams of The Majors.

Several scouts have compared him to Carlos Correa and Derek Jeter for their somatotype that is tall and lean.

The shortstop makes good contact, uses all the yards and has a very advanced understanding of the strike zone because of his age.

The defense moves very well, has good hands and an arm better than average. Because of its size, the position could eventually grow.

Cappe has generated great interest from the Miami Marlins and is represented by Yelfri Sánchez .

What a relief it is to even have an IFA thread each year as opposed to loria selling off draft picks and money for the likes of Bryan Morris and other equally incredible acquisitions

FanGraphs has their July 2 IFA board up. Interesting report on Yiddi Cappe:

              Full Report
There are differing opinions on Cappe, with some teams enthusiastic about the upside of the lanky, toolsy shortstop and others seeing a workout type with questions on game ability. He hit the market when much of the market had spent their pool money and he's rumored to have a $3.5 million deal with Miami to wait 12 months until July 2nd of 2020 when pool reset. Last year there was a player like this, eventual Yankees SS Alexander Vargas, who had a deal to wait over a year with the Reds until the Yankees got extra pool money to trump the standing offer. $3.5 million is seen as strong enough to likely keep Cappe waiting until 2020.
I wonder if this would mean we are saving money from this year to sign the Yolbert Sanchez. FanGrapghs lists the White Sox as his projected landing spot though.

Interesting. I’d guess this is the back up plan if they can’t trade for enough money to sign him.

Well like Fangraphs said he came on the market so late teams already have commits. I like Cappe but I am happy with Salas/Junior Sanchez. Miami is looking to get more cash for Cappe/Yo Sanchez NOW but guess this is the backup plan. NOT a bad plan because if they sign Cappe on J2 2020 they can just send him to the GCL instead of having him go to the DSL-guys like Sanchez/Salas/Lewis will be signing next week but won't actually play until April 2020

Question is will Cappe wait? 17 yr old in GCL is not bad

We have to watch what Salas/Junior/Lewis sign for-we can spend 5,939,800. 2020 we will have 6.5+. Miami is gonna be looking to get $ tho(doubt 3.5 million)

Not complaining but its kinda crazy the depth they are getting. We got so many RP/SP/OF they have overaged guys from Rookie to A Ball(with more coming) and DSL has 5 or 6 guys who could and should be in GCL but arent because they have no place to play

Its all about 1 word-TALENT but they need to start getting off OF/SS guys and start signing/getting bats with no real positions

Yoelkis Cespedes defects from Cuba. Little brother of Yoenis. Should be an option next signing period. He’s 21.

Not unless he signs for cheap. 22 yr old OF is not a big need in the system

Marlins to Sign Bahamian Middle Infielder Ian Lewis
by Ian Smith | Jul 1, 2019 | Infielders, International Free Agency, Minor Leagues, MLB |

Last year, the Miami Marlins went from years of merely dipping a toe into International Free Agency to full on swan-diving into the deep end. They did so by signing the Mesa Brothers after making a whirlwind of trades to make the deals happen.
Per our own Craig Mish, the Miami Marlins have their first name of this year’s IFA market in place – the Marlins will sign Bahamian middle infielder Ian Lewis for a 950K bonus when the International Signing period officially begins on July 2nd.
Miami is coming into this IFA period with a bonus pool of $5,939,00, and there have been a few names Miami has been linked to over the past few months – Venezuelan shortstops Junior Sanchez and Jose Salas, and Cuban SS Yiddi Cappe (It has been reported Cappe could possibly wait until 2020 to sign).
There was one more player who Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald had connected to the Marlins, and that player was Ian Lewis.
Per Craig, that deal will be made. A timely “Mish Bomb”. Now, let’s get to the player.
Ian Lewis is a 16-year-old shortstop/second baseman from Nassau, Bahamas. He’s a switch hitter who stands at 5’10 and weighs 155 lbs. currently. He has a projectable frame with tons of room for growth.

His bat looks advanced from the right side in the videos above, as he just added the switch-hitting aspect to his game in 2018. His bat speed looks special for his age, and he has plenty of loft in his swing for power potential.
Fielding looks crisp. He presents a strong arm, follows through on every throw, and stays away from back foot throws. He seems to take good lines to the ball and looks extremely fluid in his motions. There’s swag all over his game.
I don’t want to sit here and act like I know every detail of this young man, but from what I can tell, I’m seeing a ~dude~.
With the Bahamas becoming a new prospect hotbed – joining the likes of the Dominican Republic and Venezuela – Ian Lewis looks like the top talent in 2019. When he signs, he will be the 18th active prospect in the minor leagues from the islands of the Bahamas. Nassau in particular has produced some top tier prospects in recent years like Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect Jazz Chisholm and Rays prospect Lucius Fox.

There are tools galore when you look at these prospects, and that’s a credit to the tremendous programs that have opened in the Bahamas since 2013. Maximum Development Baseball academy and I-Elite baseball academy has been the main reason so many of these kids have gotten the exposure and coaching they deserve. The top guys are back on the islands every off-season working with these young athletes to make them better. Last summer, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp OF Anfernee Seymour held a camp for kids where almost every Bahamian prospect came out to support. It’s an area that’s producing a tight knit group of talented ballplayers.
The Marlins signing the top player on the international market was something fans in Miami had not seen before last year, but it was a welcomed sight. The IFA market has produced a flux of talent in the game right now. Names like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Ronald Acuna Jr. are taking the game by storm, and the Marlins wanted to be part of that.
Seeing Miami take the leap was an encouraging sign going into the 2019 International Signing period, and they’re picking up right where they left off.
Getting a player like Lewis into the Marlins system right now is tremendous. Marlins’ player development looks be moving at a great pace, and when you add an up the middle athlete with loud tools, you can’t go wrong. It’s doesn’t hurt that he already seems to be a fan of the Marlins organization, too.

most of these guys dont end up panning out but its such a welcomed change that we are still going all in seemingly every year now on IFA. Never made any sense how completely cheap loria was in this area.

Not "cheap" well kinda cheap just different plan. Jeff's plan was to sign 30 guys for 100K or less and hope 1 or 2 pan out. Cabrera/Encarnacion were both 100k or less while this FO plan is to sign guys who have talent. He refused to scout key areas or invest in the DSL however. We got a few guys from Panama a few years ago because no one else went into the country so Jeff sent 1 scout down to sign like 8 kids-Santos/Mejia/Guerrero Brothers

The Jeff Loria IFA plan was say to agents your guy should come to Miami and give us a deal because of the Latin community.

Keith Law has a July 2 top prospects column. Only 1 Marlins mention:

Cuban shortstop Yiddi Cappe could choose to sign in this period, but it sounds like he's going to sign with Miami on July 2nd, 2020, instead, for something like $3.5 million. He has good potential with the bat and possible future plus power, but scouts were mixed on whether he'd stay at short, with many thinking he'd have to go to second base or even center field because his actions could be long and slow.
