It was a home-and-away for the Jammers and Muckdogs, as they're in Jamestown today. Batavia took the game yesterday, 6-1, and leap-frogged Jamestown in the standings. Andy Moss, who tossed seven innings of perfect ball earlier in the year for Batavia, stymied the Jammers, who struck out a lot (again). Of note: It was hitting coach Frank Moore coaching third base rather than manager Dave Berg on the day.

2B Danny Black: Black was 1-3 with a run scored, a walk and two K's. He looked solid at the plate in this game, and also looked very smooth turning a double-play late in the game, getting the feed from the SS and throwing on to first.
LF James Wooster: Wooster only played one of three games in Batavia during the previous series, and that was in right field. Here, he went 1-4 with a double (his 7th of the year), and RBI and a strikeout. He showed off a good arm in left throwing home. According to the Jammers radio announcer, this was his first time hitting in the two-hole this year.
RF Marcell Ozuna: 1-4 with a K was Ozuna's line. His hit was an infield single. He was fed lots of off-speed stuff by the Muckdogs pitchers.
3B Ryan Fisher: 0-4 with 2 K's was Fisher. Disappointing, because he was the best looking hitter out of the Jammers roster during the series earlier in the season. He did reach on an error in the 8th inning. Fisher played the OF last time they were in Batavia, but with Dallas Poulk in Greensboro, looks like he's getting some time in the IF.
1B Aaron Senne: Senne was 0-4 with 3 K's. One was looking, two were swinging.
DH Aaron Dudley (signed as an undrafted free-agent in '10): The University of Toledo product went 1-4 with a K (swinging). Dudley is listed as a catcher on the roster, of which Jamestown now carries three. He had a hard-hit fly-out in the 4th and was robbed of a hit in the 7th.
SS Noah Perio: Perio was 0-4 and was the only starter in the lineup who did not strikeout. He grounded out three times and popped out once.
C Wilfredo Gimenez: 0-4 and 3 K's (all swinging). He probably had the ugliest ABs on the day, including his first, which he was fooled badly on two offspeed pitches.
OF Brent Keys: He went 0-2 with a BB and a K (looking). Keys showed good speed down the line and almost beat out a slow roller hit to second base. He does have 7 SB's on the season.
SP Rett Varner (6th Round Pick, 2010; also pitched for GCL Marlins in '10): Varner started off looking good, retiring six of the first seven batters he faced. Things fell apart when Fisher committed an error in the third. Three runs ended up scoring and Varner failed to make it out of the 4th. His line: 3.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K. He seemed to pitch better than his stats indicate. Varner has a really good follow-through in his motion and it's an easy follow-through. He bends to the side a bit on his wind-up and worked the outside corner well early on. At 6'4", he's got good size. In the stretch, he keeps his left foot closer to first base just a bit. His fastball appeared to sit between 88-91.
RP Kenneth Toves: Toves went 2.1, gave up 4 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 3 walks and 3 K's. He threw a lot of curveballs, with a decent success rate.
RP Andrew Kainer: Kainer went 2 innings, gave up 2 hits, one run (earned), two walks and strikeout. Not a terribly impressive outing for Kainer, who threw one curveball all the way to the backstop. It failed to curve.
Jamestown is next in Batavia on September 2nd.
