Class of 2010 Ohio State 4-star recruit WR James Louis is expected to announce tomorrow that he's transferring to FIU tomorrow. Apparently Louis wanted to transfer to UM, but the Shapiro thing left him "dissapointed."

Pretty awesome, if it works out that way. Would give us two ESPNU 150 players from the 2010 class, along with WR Willis Wright.

Games start this Thursday. FIU opens at home vs. North Texas. Got off from work for it, it's probably the only FIU game I can go to this year. That makes me a sad panda.

Kuwan Jakes might be the most inaccurate quarterback I've ever seen at the division 1 level. He's missed some passes that 10 year olds make routinely.

I doubt there's a worse Division I quarterback.

Very high. It'd probably be a dissapointment if they don't at least share the title, especially with Troy playing at FIU this year.

The talent difference. Specifically on offense and passrushers.

I don't think Troy is more talented on offense; they have a better QB, but they lost their top 5 receivers from last season and their running backs are definitely not better than FIU's. FIU has more talent spread throughout their offense, specifically at WR and RB. The OLs are pretty comparable, both are strongest at the LT position. Troy is starting 3 new players, FIU is starting 2.

Troy definitely has an excellent pass rush, led by Jonathan Massaquio. They've probably got the better defense, though FIU was better statistically last year against a pretty comparable schedule.

And FIU's easily got them on special teams. FIU has the best kick and punt returner in the conference and the best place kicker.

Like I said, I'm ok with saying Troy is better. You go with Troy's longer track record there. I just think "much" is a big stretch; FIU has a good amount of upperclassmen who have progressed really well, and last year does not look like a fluke.

I'll generally defer to you on football knowledge, but I'm pretty sure I know the Sun Belt better.

They've got a good fanbase for an SBC school, a pretty nice facility, and a decent tradition, but they're still a ways talent-wise away from being a yearly contender in football like they are in Basketball and Volleyball. Bobby Rainey's a pretty nice player, though. I wouldn't be surprised if they were good before too long, but it's not soon.

They've had the best recruiting class in the Sun Belt in 2010 and 2011 according to Rivals (both of Taggart's classes). Scout says 2011, but not 2010.

Most likely. I'm basing my statement on the amount of NFL talent on both rosters, which is unsurprisingly, a very good indicator of success in the lesser conferences.

How did Hilton happen? Guessing he didn't qualify somewhere else but I don't know how good FIU's admission standards are.

Hilton chose FIU over WVU and UF on signing day. The story he tells is that his son, who was one at the time, chose the FIU hat, so that's where he went.

I believe it's because FIU told him he could also play basketball, because he was supposed to be on the team, but he decided against that after football went so well as a freshman.

For what it's worth, FIU probably has 3 other NFL propsects in their junior class right now, with Jonathan Cyprien, Tourek Williams, and Cailynn Hauptmann, though they're all likely late round picks, nobody as good as Massaquio. Who else on Troy is an NFL prospect? Their LT? anyone else?

It kind of seems like a cop out but I'll be able to discuss this much more intelligently when I get my laptop fixed.

Well, from last year's team, one got drafted and another signed as a FA, but didn't make the final cut.

Hilton is probably the only player from this year's team that gets drafted; him, the QB and the #1 RB are the only impact seniors on the team, and the QB definitely won't, and I really doubt the RB does either. The class of 2013 is a lot stronger, and it's got guys that actually have NFL bodies and good production.

He graduated last year, but I'm fairly certain he's not playing anywhere, unless he caught on with an AFL team or something. He started every game in his career except one, but he was never a real draft prospect.

Really good against NT, but NT is really bad. We'll know a lot more after this week against Louisville, but I'm confident they're gonna be pretty good overall. They've focused on the lines in recruiting. But it's too early in the season to say.
