Oh it's gonna be fun

And if they find a way to sweep, it would be an instant transformation back to relevancy. A bad start could hurt team morale but this is also a humongous opportunity that can't be taken forgranted (not that I expect them to take it forgranted)

Still...I wouldn't mind if FAMU was a warmup for that stretch instead of the game after the stretch

I wouldnt think much of a sweep. If Miami can take two of those games, they are in good shape. Thats gotta be the toughest 4 game stretch in the country this year. You're right about the bad start thing. I dont know about the team morale part, but moreso the annoyance it would cause with everyone in Miami screaming for Shannon's head if they lose em all.

I see that happening especially with a lot of Canes fans pushing for Tommy Tuberville if that were the case.

McLevin

Yeah, the sweep was extremely hypothetical...but hey, the opportunity presents itself, they gotta go for the gusto

I'm really looking at it as a three-game stretch followed by Oklahoma. If we win those first 3 games...while I'd love to beat Oklahoma, it becomes an exhibition in my eyes. Starting 3-0 in the ACC would be beyond huge. If we go 2-2 and somehow one of those wins is against Oklahoma, I'll be ecstatic that we beat them but simultaneously pissed that we couldn't get it done in conference
--------------------
And, because everyone has their opinion on Shannon, here's mine:
Unless the team is sloppy, unprepared, and unmotivated, Shannon gets another year in my book regardless of the record.

Probably the only other thing that would get me down on Shannon would be if these amazing freshmen don't progress. The Coker-era freshmen...Shields, James, etc...who had incredible freshmen years and awful sophomore years, have halted progress for the program. DVD, a Shannon recruit, didn't progress much from his freshman year, but he's one guy, so I can't write the book on player development under Shannon quite yet. This awesome 08 class has the 100% Randy Shannon stamp, so there are no excuses for mediocrity from these guys. If the majority of the group of Spence, Forston, J. Harris, B. Harris, AJ, Byrd, Collier, Benjamin, etc. fail to build on their success of last year, you'd have to really evaluate what the hell is wrong with player development.
--------------------
Which newcomer are you most excited for?

For me it's Telemaque, with Streeter and Thompkins close behind. I'd like to see if Mike James gets involved as well, I know he had a phenomenal spring

MiamiHomer
08-08-2009, 02:18 PM
Telemaque needs to bulk up lol. My friend that is coming in with me this year to UM is on the track and field team and he worked out with the football team this summer and Telemaque was his workout buddy and he told me that he was the smallest guy there. The guy is a freak with the ball in the air but I hope he can tackle which happened to be one of our biggest issues last year.

Streeter is probably my guy I want to see and I can't wait to see how Ray Ray Armstrong looks out there and CJ Holton moving to LB with Arthur Brown taking the MLB position.

Also here is a picture Laron Byrd just added on his facebook. I think he breaks out this year.

http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs170.snc1/6380_1127591553387_1335131113_30451182_2797522_n.j pg
--------------------
Almost forgot, I'm really hoping this transition of WR to CB for Sam Shields works out. I've been hearing that he has made a nice smooth transition to the position and we could really use another athletic CB especially with us likely playing freshman Jamal Reid and Brandon McGee quite a bit.

McLevin
08-08-2009, 02:24 PM
Oooh yes, Ray Ray will be sick

And I think Arthur Brown is going to be in a tremendously better position under Lovett. For some reason I don't think he was ever going to mesh in a Bill Young defense. I was very disappointed with Bill Young's one season at Miami.

While Lovett isn't the most impressive catch at DC, I think he's a great fit for a team who's having to deal with their third DC in three years. Seems very Shannon-esque when Shannon was DC: let the players make plays, don't try to outscheme every moment, no crazy blitz packages. Seems like a very good transitional DC who can establish some consistency.

I just hope he's better than Walton who was absolute garbage.

Hidden gems could emerge in Miami Hurricanes' secondary

By BARRY JACKSON
bjackson@MiamiHerald.com
All UM and Dolphins talk:

• Is there another Ed Reed, Antrel Rolle or Kenny Phillips among these Hurricanes defensive backs? The hope is several gems emerge from five impressive freshmen and sophomores, including likely starters Brandon Harris and Vaughn Telemaque.

Former Booker T. Washington coach Tim Harris, Brandon's father and UM's senior program director, said by joining the track team this spring, ``Brandon got a lot faster, and that will build his confidence to take more chances. He's really improved.''

Paired with DeMarcus Van Dyke on the first team, Harris had some good moments in Saturday's opening practice, including an interception of an A.J. Highsmith pass. ``To me, Brandon is our best cornerback -- very physical, smart,'' receiver LaRon Byrd said.

Harris, a sophomore, senses UM fans expected more from him than last year's one interception, and draws motivation when people mention his poor game vs. FSU. ``I study a lot more now, try to know what's coming before it comes.''

Telemaque, a redshirt freshman who chose UM over Southern California despite coming out of nearby Long Beach, should start at safety alongside senior Randy Phillips, who said Telemaque ``reminds me of Kenny Phillips'' because of his great range. Last season's shoulder injury has healed, and ``this definitely will be my coming out party,'' he said. Credit Ed Reed for becoming ``a big brother figure for me.''

UM coaches love freshman cornerback Brandon McGee, an early enrollee who said he is UM's second-fastest player (4.23 in the 40) behind Sam Shields. He was on the second team Saturday opposite Shields.

UM people caution that ballyhooed freshman safety Ray Ray Armstrong needs time to develop, and Armstrong doesn't dispute that, noting he must improve his backpedal: ``I'm trying not to listen to the hype.'' Said Chavez Grant: ``He's very raw. Big, strong, but not the fastest.''

Although some believe he could end up at linebacker eventually, Armstrong said Saturday he wants to be a safety long-term because ``I like to roam free.''

Some believe freshman safety Jamal Reid, who has great range, will make the quicker impact. ``He finds a way to get to the ball,'' Grant said. Armstrong said Reid tweaked an ankle injury Saturday but will be back in a few days.

CHATTER

• Unlike last season, UM coaches said they do not feel the need to play a second quarterback in every game. Backup Taylor Cook has a strong arm and ``is more athletic than people think,'' Jacory Harris said.

• Just 165 when he arrived at UM, Harris is now 190: ``I like when people underestimate me because of my size. That's where most people slip up.''

• Among those opening with the first team at competitive positions Saturday: Leonard Hankerson and Byrd at receiver, with Kendal Thompkins in the slot; Josh Holmes (ahead of Marcus Forston) at one defensive tackle spot; and Adewale Ojomo and Marcus Robinson at defensive end. Javarris James and Graig Cooper split first-team running back snaps.

Always nice to read sports stories like this.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/columnists/sfl-hyde-um-chris-hayes-s081609sbaug16,0,6580155.column

No agents. No TV cameras. No marketing teams. Just a kid no one knew, getting in a play no one noticed, screaming atop teammates' shoulders in a moment no one else cherished, "I'm so happy!"

Every so often in an athletic world bulging with egos and millionaires you find a story that still cuts to the essence of sport.

You've never heard of Chris Hayes. There's no reason you would. In a sports world of big names and oversized headlines, he's 5 feet 9 and 170 pounds of agate type.

Four years ago, he came out of a Sarasota high school that didn't have a football program with this wild notion of walking on as a University of Miami receiver. Friends thought he was nuts. His mom said, "Don't get killed." His dad, though, beamed that his son had such big, brass ambition.

When Hayes not only survived the tryout but was one of four walk-ons to make the team, his father let loose with a celebratory string of curses over the phone — "Something he never does," Hayes said.

It didn't matter if Hayes was raw meat on the practice field the next few seasons. Didn't matter if teammates jokingly nicknamed him "Make-A-Wish" to explain his presence. Didn't matter that he never dressed in uniform for a game or made the traveling squad.

Hayes took his role seriously. He did whatever was asked. He retrieved footballs. He did computer work for coaches. Once, when the Hurricanes played a night game in Gainesville, he drove up with friends since he wasn't on the travel squad, watched the game and drove back all night to make the next morning's practice.

"The coaches don't want any excuses about missing practice," he said.

Then, one day last October, Hayes got the kind of phone call all of us fear. His father was dead. He had killed himself.

The details aren't important to this story, other than to say the son was stunned, and broken, and lost as to what to do or how to react. His father was always so full of life. Now this?

"I was a wreck," he said.

And here's the point: What happens to a player on a team's fringe when he needs help? Is the team there for him? Is anyone? Does he just drift away?

Well, Hayes got the news about his father on a Monday, the funeral was that Friday and almost every hour in between he got a call or text message from someone: a teammate. A school official. Special teams coach Joe Pannunzio. Someone.

When Pannunzio updated Randy Shannon and suggested maybe Hayes could stand on the sideline for that Saturday's game, Shannon said nothing doing.

"He's going to dress out," Shannon said.

Teammates high-fived him in the locker room when he arrived an hour before the game. Coaches patted his back. Then they went out and played Wake Forest in a game that looked like a typical college Saturday until the final play.

That's when Shannon told Pannunzio to get Hayes in the game. So while the rest of the stadium was counting down the seconds, Hayes was running into the huddle to replace the tight end — a position he'd never played — and saying a prayer to his father. His one goal: Don't screw up.

Aaron Curry, the Wake Forest linebacker who became the fourth overall pick in the NFL draft, lined up opposite him. Hayes was so numb he doesn't remember the play, only the aftermath, when someone said, "Pick him up!"

Suddenly, he was going up on teammates' shoulders. Suddenly, he was being paraded across the field. Suddenly, tears began falling, tears he'd been holding all week, surprising tears of joy for a moment his dad would appreciate above everyone else.

"I'm so happy!" Hayes began yelling up there. "I'm so happy!"

It was a Rudy moment, only better. When Hayes was set down, he sprinted to the stands where his mom stood, crying. They hugged and cried some more. And Hayes kept crying when Shannon handed over the game ball in the locker room.

See, sports isn't just about a guy who toe-taps both feet in the Super Bowl end zone or the one who swishes two free throws on national television. It's also about the Chris Hayeses out there. It took a while for him to talk about the day no one's forgotten.

"Probably the neatest thing I've been involved in in 20 years of coaching," Pannunzio said.

"I get emotional thinking of it now," Shannon said.

"I always kind of questioned, 'Why did I get put on this team?'" Hayes said. "Why did this happen? I was never going to be a player who did anything on the football field that was so great. I think that day when they were there for me, that showed me why."

As a senior this year, Make-a-Wish remains a long shot to play a down or even make the travel team. That's OK. He'll be at every practice. He'll do whatever is asked.

"There's a lot of ways you can help on a team," he said.

His one play is proof of that.

Defensive end Adewale Ojomo, whose jaw was reportedly broken in two places when a walkon who had been on the team for about a week punched him in the locker room on Sunday, may miss the entire season.

Ojomo's jaw is expected to be wired shut for a minimum of five weeks and it is expected that it would be weeks after that before he is ready to face the contact of football practice or a game. In addition, Ojomo's eating will be limited over the next several weeks which is expected to result in diminished strength and weight that could also take several weeks or months to recover from. Ojomo is a mid-sized end to begin with at approximately 253 pounds.

Details of the incident that led to Ojomo's injury have been sketchy due to the sensitive nature of the fight and the fact that Ojomo can't talk about it. The walkon who hit Ojomo is so new to the team that several sources contacted by CaneSport could not even identify him by name. He is not listed on the official Miami roster.

For some reason, the walk-on reportedly had been trying to taunt Ojomo into wrestling matches for several days. Ojomo resisted until late last week when the two grappled for a brief time in the locker room and were broken up. They reportedly shook hands later and the problem was believed to be over. Then the walkon punched a surprised Ojomo again on Sunday.

In a double whammy for the University of Miami Hurricanes football team, two of its four quarterbacks are transferring.

Taylor Cook told The Miami Herald Tuesday morning he is leaving the Hurricanes.

Cannon Smith's father, Fred Smith, also told The Miami Herald Tuesday morning his son has received his release from UM, is packing his bags, and will soon be back home in Memphis to find another school at which to play.

The new UM backup quarterback: true freshman A.J. Highsmith, the son of former UM great Alonzo Highsmith.

``Yes, Ma'am, it's true,'' said 6-7, 235-pound redshirt freshman Taylor Cook, who was named the backup to Jacory Harris after spring football. UM coach Randy Shannon told reporters Monday, however, that all three backups were still battling for the No. 2 spot.

Cook is from the tiny farming town of Eagle Lake, Texas.

``I'm just going back home to play some football,'' Cook told The Miami Herald. ``If I go to a Division I-AA school, I can play right away. If I go to another Division IA school, I have to sit out another two semesters.

``Yes, I got my release. I made a decision and I'm sticking with it.''

Cannon Smith's father is the founder of FedEx. He also confirmed that Cannon received a medical redshirt for last season for a stress fracture in his leg, and is now classified as a redshirt freshman.

I dont mind Smith leaving but i thought Cook had a chance to be good. Please dont get hurt Jacory.

Smith's Dad donated a bunch of money to UM after he arrived, so that's kinda funny.

I guess I understand Cook leaving if he fell behind Highsmith on the depth chart, but this sucks. Harris isn't the best bet to stay healthy, so a true freshman QB may be playing a huge role for UM again. Awesome.

The once-promising football career of former University of Miami and Carol City High linebacker Willie Williams might be over.

Williams, already with a lengthy criminal record, was arrested again Thursday in a suburb of Atlanta and charged with burglary and reckless driving after trying to evade police in his car. He is in the Gwinnett County Jail in Lawrenceville, Ga., after being denied bond for the burglary charge -- a felony.

His preliminary hearing is Friday.

Williams, 24, had unlawfully entered the residence of a family he had befriended in Suwannee, Ga., when they weren't home. He allegedly stole items that include, according to the arrest report, an XBox 360 gaming system, a Nintendo Wii gaming system, digital cameras, four iPods, a Palm cellphone, Dell desktop computer, Dell laptop computer, several hundred dollars in cash, several pieces of jewelry -- and more.

Williams was living in a hotel in Duluth, Ga., and working out at a sports training facility with hopes of signing a professional contract.

When he signed with UM out of Carol City High in 2004, Williams was regarded as the nation's top recruit at linebacker. At the time, UM was unaware of his criminal record. He was arrested by Gainesville police shortly after he signed with UM for an incident that occurred during his UF recruiting trip. He allegedly discharged hotel extinguishers and hugged a student against her will. UM admitted Williams with several stipulations.

He ended up backing up Jon Beason and playing special teams in 10 games as a redshirt freshman in 2005. He had 17 tackles. Williams left UM in 2006 in pursuit of more playing time. He also played at West Los Angeles College, Louisville, Glenville State (W. Va.), and last season as a senior at Union College in Barbourville, Ky.

At Union College, Williams was a first-team All-Mid-South Conference East selection after setting a single-season record with 144 tackles.

A background check Monday with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement shows Williams had been arrested 12 times as a juvenile before he was charged as an adult for a burglary in Pembroke Pines when he was 17. He has been arrested at least three more times, including for marijuana possession when he played for Louisville.

Louisville dismissed Williams after the arrest in 2007.

Vaugh Telemaque and Ryan Hill both got hurt in practice this morning. Hill is out for sure and VT's status is up in the air. Really didn't need this to happen.

wanks1212
09-05-2009, 04:31 PM
Hill wasn't even listed anywhere on the 2 deep. His loss isn't killer or anything. Telemaque would be big, because he's hella talented. But JoJo Nicholas has had a good camp and is actually listed as the 1st team safety over Telemaque. Although it would obviously be better if Telemaque was healthy, 3 months ago I would have thought his loss a bit more crucial.

And what the fuck is Randy Shannon doing two days before a game that gets these guys injured? Very few teams do much more than walkthrough (maybe 7 v. 7 and team, but unpadded or in shells) two days before a game.

ESPN reporting Telemaque is out for the game, as is Hill.

Things that annoyed me:
Horrible routes to the ball carrier.
Failure to keep someone watching Taylor and somewhat contain where he runs.
Blitzes were very ineffective and our DL needs to make plays especially since they are considered the strength of the defense.
LEARN TO TACKLE AND RECOVER LOOSE BALLS.
What's with the shot gun run plays, get in an I formation and run it in between the damn tackles.

Probably missing a bunch of other stuff but I'm just airing it out right now.

To be fair, not all other QB's didn't have to deal with a monsoon. Jimmy Graham makes a routine catch and it could have been 14-21. I'll bet that he has a better game against Oklahoma. There were some plays that even under pressure he made plays as well.

This is true. I was at the game and I did notice the usual amount of douchebags there. You can usually tell them pretty easily - they're wearing a "newer" jersey such as Javarris James, Jacory Harris, Robert Marve, etc. Or even a Ken Dorsey. If you see someone wearing the jersey of a less heralded or older guy (Andre Johnson, Clinton Portis, Devin Hester, Santana Moss, Jeremy Shockey...or, further back, guys like Stabby, Gino Torretta, etc) there's much less chance he's a bandwagoner. This is why I wear my (very) faded Edgerrin James jersey - so people don't immediately think I'm a douchebag. They have to talk to me to learn that I suck.

Still, it really wasn't much different than at the Orange Bowl when they were good back in the early part of the decade. At least at Land Shark the risk of getting stabbed by a fellow UM fan is less than it was at the OB.

Cooper and Randy Phillips expected to play this week, I have really liked Ray Ray back there since Phillips has been out.

Edit- This was from yesterday, Randy Phillips didn't practice today (Wednesday) but Cooper did.

Coach Randy Shannon said running back Graig Cooper and cornerback Randy Phillips will likely play this week. Cooper (hip pointer) practiced Tuesday, a good sign he is ready to play. He missed last week's game against Florida A & M.

Phillips (forearm) also returned to practice. He's missed the last two weeks since suffering the injury against Virginia Tech.

"He's ready to go," Shannon said.

Fullback Pat Hill (ankle),safety JoJo Nicolas (shoulder) and receiver Aldarius Johnson (shoulder) will likely miss this week's game. Shannon also said defensive tackle Marcus Forston (shoulder) remains day-to-day.

For all of you enamored with the SpongeBob-Canes connection, Harris told us the team has decorated the locker room with SpongeBob fathead stickers.

If not for the deal, the 900,000 homes in South Florida that subscribe to the cable service wouldn't have been able to see the game. The Dish Network (channel 152) and DirectTV (channel 613) carry the CBS College Sports channel, but Comcast does not locally.

The part that ticks me off is the amount of injuries we sustain and what's to say some of these injuries can have a bigger effect on their development. We already have like 8 people out for the year.

Oklahoma's DL is better so I think if we use a similar scheme of blocking like we did in that game we should be good. Clemson plays man to man on coverage so our WR's need to separate with their guy.

So, hypothetical time.

Let's say Miami fails to come back today, dropping them to 5-3. Then let's say they finish the season 2-2, losing games @ UNC and @ USF (a shitty, but realistic, proposition). Then they somehow still make a bowl game, but lose, finishing 7-6 (or, if you prefer, they don't get a bowl invitation and finish 7-5).

Does Randy Shannon still get a contract extension? Should he still get a contract extension?

(If Miami does come back, then everything is skittles and beer and maybe this conversation is avoided)

Fishfan79

would I expect him to? yes, because he will take less money then a major head coach for the program would.

I still would love to steal the head coach of rutgers back down here, which i think now that program doesnt seem to be growing it would be more possible.

I just dont see the program spending money needed to bring in a big time coach is the issue.

Ive been very patient with Shannon and wanted to give him a fair shot to get his players and his coaches in here, but im not sure if i can take him much longer. I dont want him to get an extension, this team is just too poorly coached.

That being said, i think he will get one.

They won't spend the money because they can't afford it. Shannon is not a head coach and it has showed. Also it seems like it's pretty pointless wasting money paying Lovett when we are basically running the same style of defense Shannon prefers. Does anyone else notice that this team just has no idea how to blitz? They jog at the QB and don't really fight to get through blocks and it's pathetic. Bailey is basically the only guy I consistently see getting pressure on the QB and everyone else is MIA. Another thing, DO WE KNOW WHAT THE WORD "ADJUSTMENT" MEANS? How many fucking times did they run a little roll out to the FB or TE and gash us for 10+ yards or when they had a 3rd and short situation and ran a short out route EVERY FUCKING TIME. Who is the retard that thinks running Cover zero blitzes is smart for this team because they should be fired on the spot. There is probably a bunch of other stuff I can't remember right now but it'll come to me.

Jacory, I love you but holy fuck can you look off a defender or maybe look at the other side of the field? Guys are just jumping routes with ease because he won't fucking stop starring at the guy he is going to. With that said, thanks for driving us down the field when it counted and you should buy AJ something nice for that 4th catch and should kick Hank in the nuts for for going back into his 2008 form and dropping two easy fucking balls.

This has to be some of the most poorly coached players in the nation.

Longview
10-31-2009, 11:22 PM
Yep, that pretty much nails it. We haven't covered those passes in the flats for as long as i can remember, its been years now and i cant believe every team doesn't kill us with it. And once again they were gashing us right down the middle of the field just like Clemson was doing with little shit to their RB and and TE and then we miss 2 or 3 tackles and its a big gain.

Also, Jacory, you dont need to throw home run bombs every single play when there is plenty of time to sustain a drive and score, and when there are people running wide open underneath. We were VERY lucky to win this game.

MiamiHomer
10-31-2009, 11:45 PM
The airing it out at the end didn't bother me at all. Saves us the trouble of watching us try to run a 2min drill. It's not like he was throwing it into triple coverage either. Hank should of had the first one but he dropped it then the throw to Byrd was double covered and then he let AJ have a chance to make a play and he did. I think Jacory can be real good if we use 4 WR sets and actually use the talent we have at WR instead of just basically asking 2 WRs to get open while the rest try to protect Harris.

wanks1212
11-03-2009, 12:03 PM
That's awesome.

I have to think that one of Clements, Johnson, or Hall either eventually decommitts (most likely Hall) or is shifted to another position. Because those three plus Mike James and Lamar Miller give them 5 RBs who will be freshmen, redshirt freshman (is Miller's redshirt still available?), or sophomores next year.

MiamiHomer
11-03-2009, 12:11 PM
Pretty sure Miller already red-shirted. Talk are that all RB commits will hold and we'll just me stacked at RB. Seems to work fine for USC. Now we need to get some guys on the defensive side. Louis Nix who has been committed to us for a while is starting to look like he is iffy now because of all this talk about him loving ND and actually paying his own way to go over there for the ND-USC game. There are a few DB's that like us but we haven't offered so I'm hoping we finally do. Still a lot of time left of course.

wanks1212
11-07-2009, 03:11 PM
one of the STA corners? hey that's cool

I will say I kind of wish they had looked elsewhere for QBs though, or at least brought in another one along with Stephen Morris. Morris hasn't had a great year (I don't think. His numbers may be ok but it seems like every time I hear about him, it's because he's fucking something up at the end of the game or in a critical situation), and this is the first year Pace has missed the playoffs in forever (like 18 years). Now part of that may be because of a dramatic dropoff in talent now that seemingly every private school in Dade recruits harder, but I kind of doubt they'd fall off so steeply and not have some of that dropoff be due to Morris.

MiamiHomer
11-07-2009, 03:14 PM
There really isn't much out there in terms of QB's interested in Miami. Blake Bell was one but he already committed to OU a while ago. Next year I think we have a great shot at Teddy Bridgewater (some thing he should be a WR though) or Marqiues Williams.

I think we have a great shot at "sticks" (McCartney) but Lemonier seems hard to get a read on. I just don't get the love for Illinois but I think his teammate is getting recruited by them as well so that might be a factor. Michaelee Harris is someone that I like as well but I'm sure our first priority is with McCartney. I really wish we had stayed on Dior Mathis (CB) since he seemed to really like us early on but we moved away from him, I'm guessing because of his height.

I asked Hocutt about them and he said the actual uniforms, designed by Nike, look a little different than the photos available. For starters, there is orange colored webbing on both shoulder pads. The shoes UM players will wear are orange and green, not white. And on each pant leg of the uniform, there will be an orange or green stripe that runs down the side of it. The coolest part of the uniform according to Kirby? The gloves. They'll be white on the outside, but when players cup their hands together to catch a pass, the inside of the gloves will form a green and orange U (just like the helmet).

University of Miami quarterback Jacory Harris, who told reporters he ``messed up'' his finger during the loss at North Carolina, is wearing a soft cast on his throwing hand and arm, according to a source close to the situation.

The source said Harris is expected to play at noon Saturday against Duke in the last home game of the season. The injury was not revealed, but Harris likely will not take snaps in practice Tuesday. It is believed the cast, in part, is there to immobilize the hand and prevent more swelling.

Harris was hit more than once at UNC, and spent part of the second half icing his right hand on the sideline.

``I just messed up my finger a little bit,'' he said after the game.

Harris had his worst game of the season Saturday, throwing four interceptions -- two of which were returned for touchdowns in the 33-24 loss. He threw the ball 50 times Saturday, completing 28 passes for 319 yards and one touchdown.

Harris has started all 10 games this season, completing 190 of 313 passes (60.7 percent) for 2,655 yards and 19 touchdowns, with 16 interceptions.

His backup, freshman A.J. Highsmith, has played in two games. He has completed four of six passes for 53 yards and a touchdown.
