He's pitching right now for Jax. Don't know if it's a spot start since A-bomb is gone or a callup, but he gave up 2 runs in the 1st inning.

Are there any all-control/no-strikeout flyball pitchers in the majors?

I can only think of GB pitchers.

If he could do something, like, 2.5 BB, 5.5 K/9 in the majors, he could be useful.

Just that with his FBs we're talking about a lot of HRs.

When you're 24 with a 0.9 HR/9 in Jupiter, you're gonna give up a lot of HRs.

oh shit i'm wrong

I thought Allison was servere-FB

I just looked up his splits and he's basicaly 1:1 GB:FB

Still a lot of FBs though and has a huge hr/9 in jupiter

let's say 1.2-1.3 HR/9 in MLB?

even with 1.3 HR/9 we're still talking about 4.70 ERA with the above BB/K.

But then again showing good control in Jupiter at the age of 24 isn't something amazing.

now is when we get to see if he can seriously be useful or not.

Larry Beinfest has joined the Suns broadcast talking about Jeff Allison.

No he's at the game.

Nothing earth-shattering. They were very disappointed about the off-the field issues Allison had, he was a can't miss prospect at one time, but they're very proud of the fact that he's gotten his life back together.
--------------------
Beinfest: "Guys like Stanton and Morrison just stand out when you watch a game, it won't be long before we see them in the big leagues."
--------------------
Beinfest: "Morrison will most likely compete for a starting job in the spring."
--------------------
Stanton RBI single, Morrison RBI groundout, Cousins goes boom 5-2 Suns.
--------------------
Beinfest: "AA is the proving ground, Dominguez will benefit greatly by this month in AA."
--------------------
Allison's final line: 5 IP 6 hits 2 Runs (both earned) 3 K's 1 BB

Hate to burst everyone's bubble but this sounds like just a spot start.

Allison packed up his Double-A-quality hotel room Wednesday afternoon and started the four-hour drive back to Jupiter, where he'll rejoin the Hammerheads.

Allison's a winner in Double-A debut (http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090805&content_id=6259806&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp)

Not sure why he's being sent back down. Jacksonville had a reliever called up when Thompson was traded which would still leave them a starter short. Hopefully, Jeff gets to return to Jax soon.

eh, not really a big deal. I doubt they see Allison as having a legitimate shot to make it to the big leagues now anyway.

via Clark Spencer's twitter: clarkspencer To update my earlier blog, it now appears Jeff Allison will be remaining at Double A Jax instead of returning to Single A Jupiter

What an amazing story it would be if he made an appearance in a Marlin jersey. Doubtful but hopeful.

He's up to Double-A and did decently well there in his first start, it wouldn't be the most farfetched occurrence in the world at this point

I think it would be on par with Josh Hamilton's debut, no?

Really happy that Jeff has been able to make the progress he has. If he makes an appearance with the Marlins, that would just serve to reinforce what Josh Hamilton showed the world could happen.

No it's not farfetched at all that he would make it to the big leagues, but him being anything more than a AAAA player is pretty farfetched though, IMO.

Yeah, I definitely think they'll give him at least a cup of coffee in the bigs within the next 3 years
