This kid has been raking
.318/.381/.602 in Jamestown, 88 AB, 6 HR, 8/25 BB/K. He's 19 years old this season.
Like to see less K's, but maybe they have something here. This is a repeat level so far. Not sure if they intend to push him to Greensboro, or wait until next year for that.
And Jamestown is a massive hitters park for power.
Not that it makes it bad, just not as impressive.

FWIW he's slugging better on the road (.321/.333/.679) than he is at home (.314/.442/.486) albeit small sample size
his BABIP is crazy high though...sitting at .386 right now
i like him but i'm not sure this is for real

He started quick last year too, but he's pretty much doing what he did in the GCL last year with more power. Ozuna isn't a guy that came out of nowhere. He signed for something like $200k out of the DR, although it came well after the July 2 signing date. Outside of Jose Torres he was the most premium piece of our international signings for the 07-08 period. There's a lot to believe is real here.
You are right, he does have a high BABIP, but he's also putting only 40% of his batted balls on the ground, so that number will probably be a little high. Maybe not that high, though.

They wanted him and started him in GBoro but he broke his wrist like 4 games into the season. More than likely he starts in GBoro next year with a push to Jupiter IF he destroys the league

I mean don't get me wrong, I think he's legit, but I don't think he's a 1.000 OPS. Not even a .900 OPS.

Agreed.

GB actually improve BABIP, FBs hurt BABIP
But FBs = power, well, if you have the power to back it up. And career 49% FB rate = awsm for that.

Ozuna has 17 HR so far. If he hits one more, he 'll have more HR than anyone in the NYPL since 1999 when Dan Grummit hit 22 (he was 23 and also had about 100 more ABs). He's currently tied with fellow Marlin, Miguel Fermin. Which is funny.
He also strikes out and doesn't walk.
Jamestown is also far and away the easiest park to hit HRs in in the NYPL
it's a bandbox
all the doubles he hit in Roger Dean stadium are able to go for HRs in this park

Sure. Definitely true.
But he has a 9/8 home to away split for HR. In the past 10 years, the mean for NYPL HR leaders is 13 (this years 2nd place is 12 as of now). So, I think his production as a top power producer in the recent history of the NYPL is valid.
Not to mention he is 19, while most NYPL HR leaders in the past have been 21 or older.
I'm not saying it isn't impressive, it just loses some lust based off his home park. With how much he puts the ball in the air, he should have a very productive Greensboro also, as long as his plate discipline doesn't eat him alive

BA ranked Ozuna the 4th best prospect in the NYPL. Any BA subscribers who can read the scouting report?

Well I mean it's kinda obvious. I was just trying to be vague.

Oh you mean he's younger than he claimed he was?!? Lucky us.
It is obvious but details would be more helpful than being vague.

He's like four or six years older than listed (21)

I am not sure. We just started talking about it and he said that he was way older than listed.
This is a mystery that only one MiaMan can solve.

I mean, I fail to see how a player would know and not a team official. It's not like guys who lie about their age go around bragging about it.
this thread was great, would read again

Maybe the Marlins do know?
marlins_virus.exe
02-09-2012, 02:31 PM
Don't think a team would ever keep that information. The shit it would get them in would not be worth it.
Miamarlin21
02-09-2012, 02:32 PM
I've heard/seen other instances where guys were way older than listed and it was kinda out there. Just one of those things.
I feel like you should ask more questions during a conversation.
this would be more than one of those things
there's no way a player knows, and is willing to just tell you this (without the team and Major League officials knowing)
Ozuna first asked the player to promise not to tell anyone important.

He doesn't play anymore. And I didn't wanna dog him with questions. I mean it's not huge news, just thought I'd share it. We talked about him and he mentioned in passing about him being like 26 or so and I asked him about it and then we moved on.

it's potentially massive news for this organization

Yeah. He goes from possibly maybe interesting prospect to Yoenis Cespedes overnight.
Cespedes is still interesting

I was trying to make a funny.
I've probably been one of the least negative peeps on Cespedes 'round these here parts.
You sir have sullied the name of Marcell Ozuna. I don't wish to live in a world where that man isn't a beacon of truth and freedom. Please refrain from defiling any more of my heroes without just cause and due process!
you should probably pick better heroes
