If Nicky hits like he did in April and May this will be very nice.

Not a big fan of him since he is never healthy but he is a defensive upgrade if I remember his glove skills and his OBP will be a nice replacement for Bonerface

Never healthy is wrong because if he was never healthy he wouldn't ever play.

A lineup and infield without Boner is going to give me goosepimples

Nny, how many wins is this worth (Johnson in, Bonifacio out)

Or, how many runs?
Joe Sheehan(baseball prospectus) loves this deal

At the very least, the Marlins now sport the ugliest starting corner infield in the game.
And now Gaby can go back to the minors to get some at bats

Johnson will join the Marlins in time for Saturday's game. He will play first and bat second, giving the Marlins the steady on-base presence they desperately need ahead of Hanley Ramirez and Jorge Cantu.

wonder what would be the chance we sign him long term. It was nice to see us doing something to make a push at least

I'd say this is more exciting than Johnson
Cantu said he had no qualms about moving back across the diamond to third. Regular third baseman Emilio Bonifacio will take on a super utility role, a la Alfredo Amezaga.

Everyone already knew that would happen, anyway...You seriously thought Bonifacio was going to stay in the starting lineup?

The guy has still been starting for more than half the year even with his performance being what it was. I wouldn't be surprised if he platoons with CC in left field for the righty/lefty match ups.

Send Bonerface down and bring up Maybin plz
I say let Maybin play out AAA until call ups and keep giving him everyday at bats.
This time is only going to help him develop.

Andy Gonzalez DFA'd to make room for Johnson on the 40-man.
i love it
NJ was the bat I wanted all along, he is the OBP this line up and Hanley needs
And just not a fan of Thompson. Though I'm also no fan of Tucker so yeah.

Got a lefty bat, now we can sit Hermida and call up Maybin whenever Fredi is ready.
I mean I seriously think this puts us in WC territory
we caught the braves imo
The giants didn't improve really
i can't think of the other teams atm

FSN just said washington is also sending a MILB pitcher
any word on who?

I approve. We get a capable bat and get to replace Bonifacio, and we didn't give up anything that mattered. Very nice trading deadline that played out just as I wanted it to for the Marlins.

Nick Johnson isn't what was needed we needed a closer, and a power hitter who could hit behind Hanley, and scare some teams.
Nick Johnson is an ok player but he will do nothing for us in the long run to put us over the top, and we traded a top pitching prospect.
I think we need to stop trading with the Nationals! They keep having us for lunch in these trades.
Aaron Thompson isn't close to a top pitching prospect
(no matter how much I like him)

I'd still rather have him here then Johnson, and if I had to part with him I would have got much more then Johnson.
Johnson is a light weight hitter who walks a lot... Id rather have had a nice packaged deal for a good 3rd baseman who could help us both on OBP, HR, and Defense...
So far Nick Johnson has done ZERO for us...
yeah, NJ has not gotten on base at all as a Marlin
You're sig with the violin smilie sums up the reaction to your posts nicely
Aaron Thompson's little brother?

he's got an extremely high on base percentage, so there's more of a likelihood that someone will be on base for hanley
