The gators had a huge day yesterday, 3 top commitments: Elam, Floyd, and Powell
I know ranking are meaningless, but they were all in the top 2 player in their positions.
Elam #2 safety, 14th overall
floyd #1 DT, 5th overall
Powell #1 weak side LB, 9th overall, and was the MVP of the us army game. Did anyone see his postgame comments? I'm trying to find the video of it, but from his comments, is another tebow, in terms of over the top religious

Stereotypically speaking:

Only white trash folk shop at Wal-Mart.

White trash folk comprise 100% of the Alabama population.

White trash folk comprise 100% of Alabama's fan base.

So, Alabama displaying the trophy at Wal-Mark perfectly fits the stereotype of an Alabama fan.

It's like if Miami won a National Title and displayed the trophy at an exhibit at Uncle Luke's Freak Fest.

Tennessee just got fucked in the face.
--------------------
Police were called to the Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex on the Campus of the University of Tennessee as Lane Kiffin was meeting with players to inform them that he was leaving for USC. According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel a group of student chanted obscenities at Kiffin. And they weren’t nice ones either. Fans also spray painted how they felt about Kiffin on “The Rock”.

Vols basketball player Renaldo Woolridge reports on Twitter that thousands of student chased Kiffin’s car down the street as he left campus. He tweeted that tear gas was used on the crowd and that fire trucks arrived at the scene.

Tuesday night USC officially announced that Kiffin would replace Pete Carroll as their head football coach.

In a brief press conference Tuesday night where Kiffin didn’t take questions he said, “This was not an easy decision. I really believe this is the only place I would have left to go.”

Tennessee not only lost head football coach Lane Kiffin and some of his staff to Southern Cal Tuesday night, the Vols also lost one of their commitments from Byrnes High School, DE Brandon Willis. "I was just about to leave (Duncan for Knoxville) when that came on," said Willis who was going to join Miller as an early enrollee. "All my bags are packed. I'm talking to my dad right now trying to figure out what to do. I'm back open. I've got one more official visit. I might take it, I might not. UCLA is still in the mix. I won't stay in the state. And I won't go to Tennessee. They had the nerve to call me and ask me to come to Southern Cal. And coach Orgeron had just told me he was going to be my coach at Tennessee. Auburn just called me. How is it not fair? Suppose ESPN Radio in NYC wanted to air a FIP show and pay you a lot more money to be there. Talented people often agree to go to programs that have struggled mightily for years precisely because it'll put them on the radar for a much bigger job when there's a vacancy. The big programs think, "Hell, if he could win with TEMPLE, imagine what he could do with a real college football program." Also, I'm sure if you're the coach for one of these small program schools, you're thinking, "Regardless of how good I can make Temple, they're never going to be Tennessee."

Former Florida cornerback Wondy Pierre-Louis turned himself in to Gainesville authorities early Tuesday morning and was arrested on charges of domestic battery by strangulation, unarmed burglary, battery, kidnapping and obstructing justice by tampering.

Pierre-Louis — who turned himself in at 2:16 a.m. according to Alachua County Jail records — was being sought by police after being accused of pinning a girlfriend against a countertop and choking her on Sunday morning, when he allegedly entered her home and found her with another person who fled the scene.

His bond was set at $185,000.

Pierre-Louis had just completed his senior season with the football team and was working toward a degree in Sociology. The turmoil comes soon after he discovered that his family’s home in Haiti was destroyed during last week’s earthquake.

SI.com recruiting reporter (and former AJC intern) Andy Staples was first to note Ambles’ problems with spelling “Trojans” when he saw Ambles’ tweet: “@mARKEITHAMBLES: who will i be tomorrow a vol, trogan, or tar heel!!!!!!”

Staples blew it off as a typo until he saw the Henry County wide receiver’s update on Twitter after committing to USC Wednesday morning. At 12:19 p.m. he tweeted: “Go Trogans!!!!!!”

USC’s Lane Kiffin apparently coached him up at that point. At 12:24 p.m., Ambles tweeted simply, “Trojans”

Anyone know how Charlie Strong did with his first recruiting class?

http://louisville.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1048132
Louisville, Ky. - University of Louisville head football coach Charlie Strong announced on Wednesday the signing of 20 student-athletes to National-Letters-of- Intent to join the Cardinals football program.

The Cardinals did sign three players who are mid-year enrollees in quarterback Luke Woodley from Dallas, Texas, defensive tackle Randy Salmon from Hutchinson Community College and defensive end Tyler Harrell, who transferred to Louisville from Iowa.

Hired on Dec. 9, Strong put together one of the deepest and arguably most-talented classes in school history in just a span of 55 days. Louisville signed seven players from the state of Florida, four from Ohio and Georgia, two from Kentucky and New Jersey and one from Alabama.

The seven players from Florida are true "gets" for Strong as he continues his stronghold on the Sunshine state from his success at Florida.

Strong was able to grab two players out of Northwestern High School in Miami in wide receiver Michaelee Harris and running back Corvin Lamb. Harris is a complete wide receiver, who is ranked on the Rivals 250 list. Lamb rushed for 912 yards and 14 scores and owns legitimate 4.3 speed.

Treasure Coast linebacker Deon Rogers, who was orginally committed to Georgia, made the switch to Louisville late in the process. Rogers, has outstanding speed, recorded 58 tackles and 12 tackles for loss as a senior.

Defensive end B.J. Butler from Kissimmee, Fla. is another former Georgia committment, who made the switch to Louisville after the Cardinals hired Strong. Butler is one of the top-rated players in the state of Florida and will bring a lot of athleticism to the defensive line.

The Cardinals added two big bodies in defensive lineman Jamaine Brooks and offensive lineman Chris Acosta. Brooks, is a 300-pound defensive lineman from Palmetto High School, is a big-body guy who can be tough to move off the line-of-scrimmage, while Acosta is an athletic lineman who can play a variety of diff erent positions.

Wide receiver Josh Bellamy from Butte College, who grew up in St. Petersburg, Fla. is the last player signed from the Sunshine State. Bellamy is an explosive wide out who runs precise routes. At Butte, he caught 80 passes for 1,307 yards and 17 touchdowns during his two-year career.

The Cardinals made a good name for themselves in the state of Ohio, grabbing four student-athletes from the Buckeye State.

Louisville inked a pair of Browns in quarterback Dominique Brown and linebacker Preston Brown. Dominique, the top-rated quarterback in Ohio, rushed for 1,998 yards last season in guiding Winton Woods to a 13-2 record and the school's fi rst-ever Division II Ohio State Championship. Preston is the prototypical linebacker who can run and could be a great addition to Strong's defensive scheme. Linebacker Tyon Dixon from Colerain High School is an undersized, but athletic and powerful linebacker who plays hard. He has been clocked at 4.56 in the 40-yard dash, while cornerback Jordan Paschal was credited with 266 career tackles and eight interceptions during his high-school career.

Louisville landed two of the top in-state products in wide receiver Stephan Robinson from Central High School and defensive tackle Brandon Dunn from Pleasure Ridge Park High School. Robinson, who owns 4.4 speed, caught 33 passes for 673 yards and six touchdowns at Central, while Dunn is a versatile lineman who can help the Cardinals up front.

Strong signed four players out of Georgia, including two Sandy Creek teammates in Jarrett Davis, a wide receiver, and Lacy Coleman, a defensive end. Davis led Sandy Creek to a state title by catching fi ve passes for 182 yards, while Coleman was a fi rst-team All-State performer. Wide receiver Senorise Perry is one of the fastest players in the state of Georgia, being clocked at 4.28 in the 40-yard dash. He scored 15 touchdowns as a senior.

Athlete Marcus Smith from Hardaway High School is a tremendous athlete, who threw for over 1,800 yards and 14 touchdowns last year, but could play a couple of diff erent positions. Off ensive lineman Jake Smith from Jacksonville, Ala. helps fi ll a huge need for the Cardinal on the off ensive line. At 313 pounds, Smith is an athletic and physical athlete who will add much-needed depth at that position.

The Cardinals will begin spring practice on March 24. Further dates and times will be announced at a later date.

Following three years without going to a bowl game, University of Louisville football coach Charlie Strong knew he needed to bring a little excitement to the program.

So without much time to get adjusted or hire a coaching staff, the former University of Florida defensive coordinator made a splash on the recruiting scene.

The Cardinals, despite losing one of their key commitments Wednesday on the first day of the college football signing period, announced a 20-player recruiting class that Strong said “really fills our needs.”

Louisville added 13 players on offense, signed seven players from Florida and saw its class ranking rise more than 35 spots in the 55 days since Strong was hired to replace Steve Kragthorpe.

“There's some excitement around this city now and this recruiting class adds to it,” Strong said. “It's been a great run the last two weeks . . .. The last two weeks we have been able to go out and get some players that will be great contributors.

“We want to get back to the top in the Big East and with the players we have assembled we feel like we can make that run.”

U of L's class is ranked No. 45 by Scout.com and No. 51 by Rivals.com, checking in at third in the Big East Conference

Seantrel Henderson, the highly recruited offensive lineman who announced Wednesday that he was going to Southern California, has not signed a letter of intent to play for the Trojans.

According to Henderson’s father, Sean, he will wait until U.S.C. appears before an N.C.A.A. infractions committee from Feb. 19-21 to hear about possible sanctions for the program before deciding whether to sign the letter. Though the Trojans are not likely to hear about any possible sanctions at that time, Sean Henderson said the hearing would give the family a sense of where the process was headed.

Henderson has until April 1 to sign a letter of intent. After that, Seantrel Henderson could find himself in a situation similar to Terrelle Pryor in 2008. Sean Henderson declined further comment.

Lane Kiffin really is getting a jump on recruiting.

No sooner had the Trojans new coach put the finishing touches on the Class of 2010 recruits, that he turned his attention to the Class of 2015.

That's right, 2015.

Thursday evening Kiffin received a verbal commitment from 13-year old wunderkind quarterback David Sills of Bear, Del.

Too young?

Not according to his personal coach Steve Clarkson, who has mentored some of the game's best quarterbacks including current USC starter Matt Barkley.

"His skill set is off the chart," Clarkson said. "I've never seen anyone at his age do what he's been able to do."

The commitment, which was first reported by ESPN's Shelley Smith, has happened in college basketball previously, but is unprecedented for college football where it's harder to project how a player as young as Sills will develop physically. Clarkson says that won't be a problem.

"He's already six feet as a 13-year old," Clarkson said. "And he's breaking down NFL footage."

Clarkson said the scholarship offer emerged after he called Kiffin to discuss a quarterback recruit for next year's class.

Clarkson said Kiffin asked him his opinion of the recruit and Clarkson said, "You might call me crazy, but you've known me a long time, right? And when I said if there was going to be a LeBron James of football it'd be Jimmy Clausen that turned out to be a pretty good prediction.

"And when I said Matt Barkley had the potential to be as good as Jimmy, he ended up winning Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior and starting at USC as a freshman, right?

"Well, I've got a kid now who is better than all of them and he's in Delaware. You gotta take a look at him."

Clarkson then directed Kiffin to a video of Sills that is making the rounds on YouTube.

Kiffin watched it and called him back immediately.

"He was like, 'This kid is incredible. How old is he again?'

"I was like, 'That's the problem, he's 13.' "

A couple of hours later, the Sills family called Kiffin and they spoke for the first time. USC had always been Sills' dream school, according to his father, David Sills IV.

"I'm as shocked as anybody," Sills' father said. "I was just talking with friends yesterday about what it'll be like four years from now when David goes through the recruiting process. I never expected this to happen so soon.

"But David's always wanted to go to USC. I mean, is there a better place to play football in the country? How can you pass up the best offer you're ever going to get?"

The younger Sills, who is an seventh-grader at Red Lion Christian Academy in Bear, Del., has been training with Clarkson for three years. They meet about once every six weeks at various locations around the country. Sometimes in California, where Clarkson is based. Sometimes in Delaware. And sometimes somewhere in the middle, if Clarkson is conducting a clinic.

"Steve and David hit it off immediately," David Sills IV said. "If there's ever anything David is doing wrong, Steve can fix it in like 10 minutes."

Still, 2015 is a long time from now. A lot can change.

"Well, we're going to be out to California in a few weeks and we'll meet Lane then," Sills' father said. "We're excited to meet him. And we're excited to verbally commit. Hopefully it all works out in the future."]

According to reports, highly regarded defensive back Latwan Anderson, from Glenville, Ohio, has changed his commitment from West Virginia to the Miami Hurricanes after a recent visit.

Anderson, a U.S. Army All-American, was ranked as the No. 15 player in the nation by Rivals.com. He had originally committed to West Virginia during an in-game announcement at the bowl but re-opened his search following a mid-January offer from USC. Anderson had planned a visit to the Trojans but it never materialized. Instead, he made an official visit to Miami last weekend.

"I felt that all things were equal between West Virginia and Miami," Anderson told SI.com about the two schools. "The only difference was the football. In my opinion, Miami is far and away closer to winning conference and national championships than West Virginia."

Along with having family in Florida, Anderson said one other major factor figured into his decision.

"Even if I don't make the NFL, I could see myself living in Miami after I get my degree," Anderson said. "I don't know if I can say the same if I went to West Virginia. I don't know if I can see myself living there after school."

Henderson played basketball at Cretin. Maybe they can just take Haith's last basketball scholly, since Brandon Knight ain't gon take it.

Really, though, I'm sure they'd find a way to sneak Henderson in there if he wants to commit. They can get creative with shit. Give him a "leadership" scholly, or some of the other shadier non-athletic scholarships schools give out, for his first year, and then put him on a football scholarship starting after his first semester. They'll figure it out, if need be.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was suspended Friday for the upcoming season by coach Chip Kelly after pleading guilty to second-degree burglary in the theft of a pair of laptops and a guitar from a campus fraternity. Masoli, a senior who had been mentioned as a potential Heisman candidate, will remain on scholarship with the Ducks and could apply for redshirt status. Masoli pleaded guilty as part of a deal that reduced his charge from a felony to a misdemeanor and was sentenced to 12 months of probation and 140 hours of community service.

He was invited largely because of the new TV structure. This year, the first round is Thursday night, the second and third round are Friday night, and the remainder of the draft is Saturday.

Tebow was invited so that ESPN has a compelling story running during the second and third round Friday - their broadcast can revolve around "Where's Tebow going?" and give the otherwise disinterested viewer a reason to tune in. And that "Where's Tebow going?" storyline is enhanced if he's in the building.

Also, the NFL's invited 24 people this year.

Full USC Sanctions:

The NCAA has released a statement, which provides the Cliff’s Notes version of their 67-page report on USC’s violations. What folllows is the full list of both self-imposed and NCAA mandated sanctions against USC:

• Public reprimand and censure.

• Four years of probation from June 10, 2010, through June 9, 2014. The public report further details the conditions of this probation.

• Postseason ban for the 2009-10 men’s basketball season (self-imposed by the university).

• Postseason ban for the 2010 and 2011 football seasons.

• One-year show-cause penalty for the assistant football coach (June 10, 2010, to June 9, 2011). The public report further details the conditions of this penalty.

• Vacation of all wins in which the former football student-athlete competed while ineligible, beginning in December 2004. This vacation includes participation in any postseason competition, including football bowl games.

• Vacation of all wins in which the former men’s basketball student-athlete competed during the 2007-08 regular season (self-imposed by the university). The committee also stated this vacation must include participation in any post-season competition, conference tournaments and NCAA championships.

• Vacation of all wins in which the former women’s tennis student-athlete competed while ineligible between November 2006 and May 2009 (self-imposed by the university). The committee also stated this vacation must include participation in any post-season competition, conference tournaments and NCAA championships.

• Reduction of football athletics scholarships to 15 initial grants and 75 total grants for each of the 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years. This represents a decrease of 10 scholarships for each of the three seasons.

• Reduction of men’s basketball athletics scholarships from 13 to 12 for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years (self-imposed by the university).

• Reduction of the total number of recruiting days in men’s basketball by 20 days (from 130 to 110) for the 2010-11 academic year (self-imposed by the university).

• A $5,000 financial penalty (self-imposed by the university).

• Remittance of the $206,200 the university received for its participation in the 2008 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament (self-imposed by the university). In addition, the committee noted the university must also forfeit all future distributions scheduled for this appearance.

• Disassociation of the former football student-athlete, the former men’s basketball student-athlete and the representative who provided extra benefits to the former men’s basketball student-athlete. This disassociation includes the refusal of any financial or recruiting assistance, as well as other conditions, which the public report further details.

• Release of three men’s basketball prospective student-athletes from their letters of intent (self-imposed by the university).

• Prohibition of all non-university personnel, including boosters, from traveling on football and men’s basketball charters; attending football and men’s basketball team practices; attending or participating in any way with university football and men’s basketball camps, including donation of funds; and having access to the sidelines and locker rooms for football and men’s basketball games. The public report further details appropriate exceptions for these limitations.

I figured if he qualified for USC (private school, good school) he'd qualify for Miami (private school, not as good as USC but still solid). I suppose they may not have a scholarship for him if they're using a track one for Latwaan but with the few fellas who are going to prep school this year and some other sure-to-be transfers they'd probably find a way to fit him in.

Also, just found this out and not sure if it's known, but Seantrel is (or at least was, for awhile) playing in the Howard Pulley Basketball League in St. Paul (big league where all the midlevel D1 to high level D3 kids play). I have a buddy who plays in the league and I've been to a few games in the past, and it's not exactly clean play and....well, this probably isn't the smartest decision for Seantrel, considering who else is playing in that league, although that's par for the course for him.

One of the insiders on canesport says Henderson is basically a lock to go to Prep school that he wasn't even going to qualify for USC.

Article on there talking about how LeBron actually has made some possible bball recruits look our way now.
--------------------

Seantrel Henderson Will Attend Miami (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/10/sports/ncaafootball/10henderson.html?_r=2)

Seantrel Henderson, a prized offensive lineman considered by most analysts to be the nation’s top high school football recruit, and his father, Sean, said on Friday afternoon that he would attend the University of Miami in the fall.
Julia Robinson for The New York Times

Henderson had been recruited by just about every major college football program in the country.

Henderson’s announcement came just three days after Southern California released him from his letter of intent and is a recruiting coup for Miami Coach Randy Shannon.

Henderson is a 6-foot-8, 340-pound left tackle from Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul, Minn. and had been recruited by just about every major college football program in the country. Immediately, he becomes the prize of a Hurricanes recruiting class that had already been ranked No. 14 by Scout.com and No. 16 by Rivals.com.

His decision is the culmination of an unusual recruiting process.

In February, after announcing his decision to attend U.S.C., Henderson postponed signing his letter of intent until U.S.C. officials had appeared before an N.C.A.A. infractions committee.

Henderson said that he signed the letter only after Lane Kiffin, the first-year U.S.C. coach, had assured him and his family not to be worried about possible penalties from the investigation, which centered on improper benefits given to the star tailback Reggie Bush. But last month, the Trojans were hit with a two-year bowl ban, four years’ probation and loss of scholarships.

After the sanctions were announced, Henderson didn’t report to U.S.C. and was instead given his release from the Trojans.

He will arrive at Miami on Aug. 3 and is already academically eligible for the upcoming season, Sean Henderson said.

Guess that 'insider' got it wrong.

Temple athletic director Bill Bradshaw yesterday confirmed speculation that, in recent months, there had been discussions about a potential football game against the Miami Hurricanes at a neutral site, possibly even Yankee Stadium.
"We would always be interested in playing a game like that at a neutral site," Bradshaw said.

A source familiar with the situation indicated that there had also been internal conversations about a game against Penn State at a neutral site, but that there had been no conversations in about 8 months.

Temple is coming off a 9-4 season, its first winning record since 1990, and its first trip to a bowl game since 1979.

Interesting.

Meh. The Notre Dame game in Chicago in 2012 is much better. The ACC is full of Temple-quality teams. I suppose if they want to do that game in 2013 that might not be a bad idea, since one of the OOC games that year is Florida and they'll probably need another Big East/Big 10 type of opponent so that the schedule's not Florida, USF, and a bunch of jackass teams.

The Yankee Stadium thing was gonna be against a Pac 10 team like an Oregon. Hopefully it goes back to a matchup like that. Temple may not be a bad team but they aren't an attractive matchup from a national perspective.

07-15-2010, 04:19 PM
Yeah, Temple's better than Notre Dame right now. Half of the ACC's better than Notre Dame right now, and the ACC sucks. But if Miami wants to attract a national audience and help with recruiting, they schedule teams with big names who may or may not be good in 2013, instead of hoping Temple can sustain their moderate success of the past few years. National appeal plays to recruits. Recruits don't want to see UM play TCU, even though TCU's good. They want to see UM play Ohio St, because they know who Ohio St. is and Ohio St. had a history of success, national appeal, etc.

I mean, if I'm scheduling for 3-4 years out, I'm betting on a Notre Dame or other similarly situated school (i.e. big $, somewhat recent success, big conference (not applicable to ND, but you see what I'm getting at, etc.) being a more attractive matchup than Temple. Temple's the team you settle for when Notre Dame drops you from their schedule at the last minute and you need a replacement quickly.

Now here's an outfuckingstanding idea that will never happen because it's not in a big enough city and doesn't have enough luxury boxes available:

The Big Ten is expected to start playing a conference championship game in 2011, and the Green Bay Packers would like to host it.

"We'd be very interested," Packers president Mark Murphy told ESPN.com. "The Big Ten has got such history and tradition, and to have a championship in Lambeau Field would be tremendous. It'd be good for our community and good for college football to have it in such a historic venue."

Murphy, a former Northwestern athletic director who's well-connected within the Big Ten, says the Packers have already contacted the Big Ten office to make the case that Lambeau Field is the right place for a Big Ten title game.

When the Packers released their financial information this week, Murphy noted that the team's local revenues have been flat since 2007, and the Packers would like to increase their unshared revenue. So it makes sense for him to talk up Lambeau as a host venue, just as he did when he said the idea of a Super Bowl at Lambeau is "very intriguing."

And it would make sense for other NFL teams in the Big Ten region -- including the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns -- to contact the Big Ten office as well.

That's a terrible fucking idea.

Almost all the schools in the conference are forever distance from there.

One of those things that sounds cooler than it actually is.

I'll be stunned if it doesn't end up at Lucas Oil. Indianapolis already has a working relationship with the conference.

Indianapolis is close to what, IU? Ohio St. and Illinios aren't that far, nor are Northwestern or Michigan, but Indianapolis isn't exactly a central location for school like Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc.

They'll probably do it in Indianapolis because they want it in a dome in case the weather's shitty. And the weather's going to be shitty. If they want to do it in an actual city that's not a shithole like Indianapolis or Green Bay, they should play it at Soldier Field. But they won't because Soldier Field's not climate controlled.

Indianapolis would be better than Cleveland though.

Tim Tebow was the cover boy for NCAA 2011, striking a fearsome, fist-clenching pose on the front of EA's college football game/simulator/epic time suck. FEEL HIS INTENSITY, VIEWER. Early reviews indicate that the 2011 edition of the game features improved passing, something Tebow will also have to patch up in the transition between last year's edition and this year's in his first year as a Bronco.

If he's like the game he'll throw a pick every fifteen attempts or so whether he wants to or not, which will make him sad, and which will remind you of Tim Tebow's other less dignified pose: crying. Fortunately the GameStop managers of Tuscaloosa, Alabama are here to remind you of that pose lest you forget with a custom cover they slipped onto their stores' copies of the game.

The first Tebow is funny, but come on. The Tebow crying over Tebow's shoulder is just overkill, which is why a very cruel part of me loves it.

The Owls and the Pussycats.

Notre Dame and Temple are in negotiations for a game in South Bend in 2013 but the deal is far from finalized.

Notre Dame is trying to reestablish some roots in the Northeast. The Irish play Army this November at Yankee Stadium. There is a large recruiting base, especially in North Jersey, that has eroded over the years. When Bergen Catholic superstar Brian Cushing went to USC instead of Notre Dame, the Irish knew that the Blue and Gold of yesteryear has turned into the Gray and Gold.

Temple has played Penn State over the past few years, but that deal has been two-for-one.

Al Golden paid a visit to South Bend over the offseason, but Brian Kelly got the job.

UConn and Randy Edsall capped an incredible season last year by stunning the Irish in one of the year’s most emotional games. It even got Edsall an interview for the Irish job. Temple’s football program is making similar strides.

It will be interesting to see who has more wins this year, Notre Dame or Temple. Last season, the Irish, with Jimmy Clausen , Golden Tate and Michael Floyd, didn't make a bowl game. Temple did and was smacking around UCLAbefore disintegrating in the second half of the EagleBank bowl. And Temple didn't have freshman sensation Bernard Pierce, who now has a Heisman campaign going and his own web site www.Pierce4Heisman.com.

There’s growing concern from University of North Carolina athletic department officials that star defensive tackle Marvin Austin will ultimately be suspended for his entire senior year due to alleged NCAA violations involving extra benefits from agents, middlemen and marketing representatives, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

No action has been taken at this time by the NCAA as they continue to gather information.

“The next time we will see Marvin Austin is at the NFL scouting combine,” our source predicted.

Our source also predicted that Austin might not be the only North Carolina player to face NCAA punishment for alleged rule violations.

According to a source, NCAA investigators interviewed Austin, wide receiver Greg Little, safety Deunta Williams, cornerback Kendric Burney and linebackers Bruce Carter and Quan Sturdivant early last week.

I think the Gators probably drop two to Bama and then lose another game along the way that they probably shouldn't when looking at the schedule, like at UT or FSU or to Georgia or LSU. They won't be as dominant as they were last year or the year before and I can see Brantley or some of the newer starters having a key fuckup in a close game, of the type that last year's team wouldn't make, and that being the difference between a close victory and a close loss.

But no way they lose more than 3.

Alabama's in on the agent fun.

Alabama coach Nick Saban has confirmed to reporters from ESPN.com that the Crimson Tide's compliance staff is investigating if UA defensive end Marcell Dareus broke NCAA rules by attending an agent-related party in Florida earlier this summer.

Dareus' name has surfaced in recent days as reports multiply of agent-related investigations at NCAA institutions. It appears as though this latest news that could snag Alabama is related to the reported investigation involving North Carolina's football program. Tar Heels standout defensive lineman Marvin Austin, who has been cited by multiple outlets as a part of the UNC investigation, is known to be friends with Dareus and has tweeted as much earlier this year.

Austin has been interviewed by NCAA investigators about the party in South Beach, according to ESPN.com.

Saban told the Web site that he feels the NCAA should "take schools off the hook" when it comes to agents and college players.

"Right now, agents are screwing it up," Saban said. "They are taking the eligibility of players. It's not right that those players do the wrong thing. We have a great education process here. We have a full-time worker who meets with players and their families and does everything else."

Dareus is a rising star on Alabama's football team and was named defensive MVP of the BCS national title game. It's uncertain if NCAA investigators have approached Alabama or interviewed Dareus at this point.

Dareus' mother Michelle Luckey passed away on May 18. The trip allegedly involving Austin and other players took place soon after that date, sources have said.

It is believed that involvement from Dareus in this investigation would likely not be considered an institutional matter so long as he did not participate in a game while ineligible. Dareus' future eligibility, however, could certainly be impacted during the 2010 season.

"What the NFL Players Association and the NFL need to do is if any agent breaks a rule and causes ineligibility for a player, they should suspend his [agent's] license for a year or two," Saban told ESPN.com. "I'm about ready for college football to say, 'Let's just throw the NFL out. Don't let them evaluate players. Don't let them talk to players. Let them do it at the combine.' If they are not going to help us, why should we help them?"

What Saban is proposing could bring college football to an end and I believe a Minor League system of football could emerge. Imagine the best football players out of high school going to a Minor League system instead of going to school. The NCAA could have a much bigger problem if they choose to 'shun' the NFL. I don't know how it would work but I believe this could happen.

Saban would be a fucking idiot to "shun" the NFL.

What recruits are going to want to play for him if NFL scouts can't see them, when the recruits can go to any other school in the country and be exposed to NFL scouts during practice?

Most of these recruits think they're NFL bound, so they're going to want as much exposure to the NFL as possible. By closing practices or whatever else Saban wants to do, he's just harming his own ability to recruit. If a recruit has a choice between going to UF and having NFL scouts watch him everyday or going to Alabama and only getting exposed to the NFL on Saturdays and at the combine, where's the recruit going to school? Not Alabama.

From what I understand, an NFL D-League is being discussed.
--------------------
"On the other side of it, coaches look at it and say, ‘We need to develop young players. We need to get young players in a position to where they can develop as players and become solid NFL talent.' One of the things we talked about today and have discussed in the past is the possibility of a developmental league. I think a lot of us looked at NFL Europe and a real benefit of that league is that we found that it was a great way to develop young players. I think a real concern is particularly young quarterbacks. They really need the game experience. So I think quarterbacks and offensive linemen, as well as all players, are the focus. So if we could have a developmental league to develop younger players and quite honestly, also to develop coaches and officials, it would really be positive for the league with the possibility of having a developmental league with games not only in the spring, but in the fall.”

And if it did come to fruition it won't have an impact on college football or the draft.

Jeremiah Masoli becoming a member of the Ole Miss Rebels is a step closer to coming to fruition this morning, the Memphis Commercial Appeal is reporting.

Head coach Houston Nutt confirmed to the paper that the former Oregon quarterback has sent his scholarship release papers to the Rebels. Masoli graduated from Oregon earlier this month and is now free to sign with another school without sitting out a transfer year, provided the school with which he signs offers a graduate program not available at Oregon.

Nutt, who has stated he will look to add a third quarterback following the transfer of Raymond Cotton, also confirmed via a text his interest in possibly bringing Masoli into the fold.

"Checking all avenues," Nutt texted to the Commercial Appeal. "I anticipated Jevon's (Snead) departure (leaving school early for the NFL draft), but Cotton's really puts us in a bind. Will let you know if I get serious with Masoli."

(Translation: "If I can convince my boss, and my boss's boss, he's so in.")

Nutt also said he's certain Masoli emailed his release papers to several other schools, although Ole Miss is the only one to have confirmed receiving them.

It now appears, however, that's it's simply a matter of when, not if, Masoli becomes a Rebel; the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal is "hearing Masoli will end up at Ole Miss." The Jackson Clarion-Ledger writes that the "decision that will likely need to be signed off on by several layers of the university hierarchy because of Masoli's past issues."

Either way, it's appearing more and more likely that Masoli and his on-field talent -- and oversized off-field baggage -- will be on the Ole Miss sidelines come September. Amazing.

Well, he'll be better than Snead, that's for sure.

This is interesting. I'm curious what he'll do there. Won't have long to learn the playbook or whatever, but I'm sure they can make it work in a pinch.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans are suing Southern California and coach Lane Kiffin for "maliciously" luring away assistant running backs coach Kennedy Pola a week before training camp opens.

Tennessee Football Inc., the company that owns the Titans, filed the lawsuit Monday in Davidson County Chancery Court against both the university and Kiffin.

The lawsuit accuses Southern California and Kiffin of violating Pola's contract that required him to have written permission to discuss a job with anyone other than the Titans.

Tennessee hired Pola as running backs coach in February only to lose him Saturday to Southern California as the Trojans' new offensive coordinator and running backs coach.

"USC and Kiffin maliciously intended to -- and did -- induce Pola to breach the Pola contract," the lawsuit charges.

"USC and Kiffin engaged in improper means in their procurement of the breach and were not legally justified in their actions. Kiffin and USC's actions, through him, were part of a course and pattern of conduct fostered by Kiffin and USC to use improper methods and means to the direct harm and damage of parties to contracts ..."

The Titans declined to comment Monday beyond the lawsuit.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher, a Southern California alumnus, said Saturday that Kiffin neglected to make the customary courtesy phone call to let him and the NFL team know he was interested in hiring Pola. Fisher himself had hired Pola, letting go Earnest Byner to free up the spot on his coaching staff.

Pola's contract ran at least to Feb. 14, 2011, with the NFL in the final year of its current labor agreement with the players.

The lawsuit lawsuit notes that written permission from the president and general counsel was needed because verbal "consent is inadequate." The lawsuit also notes Southern California and Kiffin, through Pola, knew about his contract requirements.

"Pola was not given express written consent by Tennessee Football or the Commissioner of the NFL to entertain employment with any other entity," the lawsuit argues.

The move left the Titans without a running backs coach one week before training camp opens, which the lawsuit argues disrupts planning, causes "potential loss of confidence by players" and the loss of salary and benefits already paid to Pola along with "future damage."

The lawsuit is particularly harsh on Kiffin for what it calls intentional actions. Kiffin said he first spoke to Pola on Friday, and then called Fisher on Saturday after Pola called him back, apparently to accept the job.

Kiffin acknowledged in a statement that timing wasn't perfect.

"I have spoken with Coach Fisher and he now has an accurate understanding of the timeline of events," Kiffin said. "We realize the timing of this isn't perfect for all parties, but this is a great opportunity and promotion for Kennedy."

Fisher told The Tennessean newspaper he was very disappointed in Kiffin's lack of professionalism. The lawsuit doesn't hold back in criticizing Kiffin for "furtherance of a culture of violation and avoidance of respect for the sanctity of contract, which Kiffin similarly practices ..." in inducing Pola to breach his contract.

The lawsuit notes Kiffin "abruptly departed" his coaching job at the University of Tennessee in January after just 14 months, which angered Volunteers' fans. Kiffin also lured four other Tennessee coaches to join him at Southern California, and the lawsuit also notes how Kiffin tried to hire Eric Bienemy away from NFL's Vikings, forcing Minnesota to redo his contract to keep the assistant.

The lawsuit asks for a jury trial and punitive damages and attorneys fees.

The Tennessean first reported the lawsuit on its website.

As you can tell by the clip from 1994, I'm not too optimistic about the team this year. Hopefully with the move the the Pac-10 and the inevitable firing of Hawkins during or after this season, we can start to get the program back on track.
